Anybody have a BMI of less than 35 before Lap Band Surgery?

I found that you can find docs in the US for about $10K to $11K. If you cant stand the idea of going to mexico, they are a nice alternative. The hospital in detroit charges only $11k, through belite.

Vixie you made me laugh outloud!! I was banded on June 7 in the US, however I have read so many banders who were banded in Mexico by Dr. Ortiz. It sounds like he is an excellent doctor, and the facility is very nice to.

Now, Crystal, I don't want this to come out badly, but you are 21 with a bmi of 28, I am not sure that will qualify, only if you self pay. Maybe you plan to do that anyway, and that is fine. I am trying to asses if the band was available in the early 80's when I was 21, maybe if I had it then I would not be 80lbs over weight and would not have lost it so many times throughout my life. But I also know that at your age, losing weight and changing life style is less difficult. If you have tried it all, then you know what you want.

I know someone who gained 20lbs to be eligilble for gastric bypass and now she is thin, and says she feels great. This is a big decision, and I think if it is what you think is best for you , go for it.

Good luck,

Hi I had my band on yesterday. I feel great except alttle sore at port incision site. I had a BMI of 36.5. My insrance approved it in 4 days and had my surgery 10 days from my first consult. P.S. I didn't vomit, Iwasn't nauseated and very little shoulder pain but gone now.

yes,it will be self payed and i am aware that this is a big thing, that's why i am little scared.I am trying to loose weight until december,if i won't make it then i will go see a doctor for this surgery.I exercise 3 times a week and try to keep a diet, but it's hard.I am really confused right now,i don't know what to do.I am only 21,but i've lost a lot of years because i couldn't enjoy them. All i want is to be happy and this is a big part of my life.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
