I am 11days post op and wondering how many calories a day everyone is consuming? I have no idea how many is concerned "normal" or "too little." For the record I am 5'6" and 223 lbs since I know prior to surgery that mattered with calorie intake

Hi there. Honestly my nutritionist told me not to worry about calories at all. Focus on Protein.

I do however use my fitness pal to track my foods so I happen to know how my calories have tracked over time. In the first 8/10 weeks I was consuming around 500 calories a day. Then my body went into starvation mode and I stalled for about 3 weeks. I was told I needed to get more Protein in and reduce the time I was exercising.

Now I typically eat 1000 or slightly less calories a day.

The important thing is to stick to the allowable diet and you will make progress.

Good luck!

I have to agree with @@Djmohr . Focus on Protein and Water. Make sure you are getting in what your dr. recommends (mine recommended 60-80g/day). Once you are consistently meeting those goals, then you can start thinking of quality of Protein choices in terms of calories/fat, etc. I also put everything into myfitnesspal. Good luck!

I was also told not to worry about calories also, but I know that I was at about 300-350 for the first couple weeks, then 400-600 for the next several weeks, now at 5 months I try to not go over 800

I guess I am less than 600-700 calories on a daily basis. I am getting my Protein but that is thanks to Isopure drinks. And should we eat when we get hungry or on a scheduled basis? I'm afraid to fall in to the grazing habit but if I'm hungry after eating 2 hours prior then I'm hungry!!

Mine was a lot like Aelovelady's. In the beginning it was hard to get 300 then it settled out around 600-700 for me for the longest time. I am now above that at 7 months out. I am active everyday and have lost 101 lbs. Also my meals/snacks run about 2 hours apart. I have coffee in the am, then a Protein shake for Breakfast and 2-3 hours later I eat a snack of Protein, then a couple hours later lunch and 2-3 hours after that another snack (sometimes fruit because it's more filling) then something light for dinner but protein packed if possible. The main thing to differentiate between grazing and snacking is a PLANNED snack, otherwise you will graze. Eat the planned snack then wait till next meal. My NUT said she liked my frequency of eating. So I have stuck with it. Hope this helps!!

@@2bullymom our program recommended scheduling our meals and Snacks and eating them if we are hungry or not.

I think I may also need to do this for getting in all the liquids needed immediately following surgery.

Good luck :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
