What is the best brand/model of MATTRESS for larger-size people?

Recommended Posts

My wife is about 220 lbs. and I am about 300. Two years ago, we thought we were buying a top-of-the-line Stearns & Foster King Size Bed (Model: Silver Dream) for about $3,000. After one year, the bed was cratered and our backs were destroyed. We thought, "Oh, maybe extra soft Pillow Top is not such a good idea for older backs."

So the company replaced the mattress with a very firm Stearns & Foster. However, one year later and we have the same problem. Needless to say, my side is more cratered than hers. ;-)

The company is again willing to replace the mattress. However, I think I just want to ask for my money back.

Do you have a great night's sleep the whole night? Do you love your mattress? PLEASE HELP!

MANY THANKS!

We have a Select-Comfort bed(the sleep number one) and LOVE it. We've had it about 4 years now, and I sleep so much better on it then any other I've tried. I like that I can adjust it when I want a little softer or firmer bed, even at my highest weight.

It's been really good for my back. I wake up with no pain, when I stay at someone's house or at a hotel I often have back pain. I was surprised in fact when I did my pre-surgery sleep study and the clinic had the Select Comfort beds.

I agree with lisah25 about the Select Comfort bed. I bought one a few months ago and can't believe the difference in the quality of my sleep. My old interspring mattress, although expensive and a good name brand, was a torture device. I LOVE my Select Comfort. However, a friend of mine (she's skinny) bought a Select Comfort shortly after I did and she hates hers. She's sending it back and getting a Tempurpedic. Personally, I don't like the Tempurpedics. They are very hot and you get "stuck" in the bed. I couldn't turn over in it and had trouble getting out. My friend hates the Select Comfort because she need a firm bed when sleeping on her back and a soft bed when sleeping on her side, so when she changes positions in the night, she gets uncomfortable. I don't think she's going to be happy with any type of bed. Go with the Select Comfort. After all, the bionic woman would never lie to us.

Yes, yes, yes. I have a Select Comfort bed and I love it. I am a 55-60. I bought the dual bed, so I can control my side and when I get a husband (I'm single.), he'll be able to control his.

Try it out. A lot of malls have these stores and you can go in and get an actual demo.

I have a Natures Rest bed and it is a pure delight. I will never buy another brand.

I'm not much help with brand names in another country but have you looked into the new memory foam stuff? It goes by the brandname Tempur here, and its that weird foam that feels and looks hard and thin and you lie on it and think "ooh, yuck, its like lying on a plank of wood" and suddenly you're body just s-i-n-k-s into it, its utterly divine. We bought pillows and they're fantastic, $200 each they ought to be.

Its expensive, but its fabulous becuase its just literally a block of foam - there's no springs or anything in it and it moulds itself around you, when you move, the mattress recovers and remoulds itself.

You either need to buy a base with it that's designed for it, or its good for sitting on any slat bed.

We bought a very expensive posturepedic bed five years ago and hated it, buying a bed is such a hard thing to do unless you can sleep a night in the store. But since my weight is gone, one of the most unexpected side effects is how well and how comfortably I sleep - I was having trouble turning and staying comfortable at my heaviest, and that was only at a BMI of 35.

We have a temperpedic and love it. I was sleeping in a reclining chair with lots of pillows 'cause my back was giving me such pain. I thought i'd never sleep flat again 'till we got the temperpedic. Ours is the middle price model.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
