Hi all,

How much is the avg weightloss in the 1st month postop? Especially those of us who were borderline qualifying before surgery. Postop I have lost about 18lbs and am thrilled., I weighed in @182lbs over the weekend. However, my clothes sizes haven't changed since surgery. I'm still wearing a size 18 in jeans. Any thoughts?

Surgery was Feb 2nd.

I am a week and half post op and have lost 18 pounds since surgery. I think everyone is different. I still wear my same size 18s too lol

I think we stretched out the 18s amd made them 20s or 22s lol

Every person is different. I didn't notice my clothes getting loser for about 2 months. I could deal with anything around my surgery sight though. But by the time I went back to work (6 weeks)I was down to a 18 from a 20.

My 1 month surgiversary was this past Saturday and I have lost 30 lbs so far! I am very happy, I think the stomache is still a little swollen for the 1st month or so, I have gotten my behind into my size 12 pants but I can't button them, BUT I am not far out, I have boxed my size 16's and am wearing my size 14's and I am very happy about that but I know that the size 12's are only a week or so away! My birthday is in the middle of March and I am hoping to go shopping for new bras and panties for my birthday!

Keep up the GREAT work, those sizes will start to fall soon!

Well I noticed one major thing, my feet shrank down to a size 9! I've been a size 10 shoe for 11yrs, I was a woman's 9 since I was 10yrs old. I was able to grab a new pair of shoes in my new/old size today. For me this is huge. I haven't needed my lasix since the last week of January. Here's hoping my congestive heart failure is in remission.

My friends have noticed the weightloss in my face,,i have noticed also that while I cant fit into a 16 yet my size 18 jeans are almost falling off me. The way the surgeon's office talked I would lose most of my weight in the first 3mons or so postop. Well I have lost about half my weight since I was approved for surgery last summer.

I don't get on the scale because it is too easy to get caught up in the number. I was weighed the day of surgery and will learn how much I've lost next month at my 3 month check up appointment. I measure my progress by the way my clothes fit.

My first month I lost 27lbs. On surgery day I was 252, which was just enough to qualify.

Since, however, I only weigh on the 1st of every month. I can't weigh every day or week b/c it drives me insane.

I really can't fit into my jeans, so I stole a pair of my husband's jeans yesterday, I lost 2 inches in the waist. But I'm not s buy re how much I weigh since I don't own scales.

Hi, I'm new to this group... My surgery was 2/16/15... Went and saw my doctor on yesterday for my post op appt. So I'm 3 weeks post op and have lost a total of 29 lbs in 22 days... But like everyone else I can still wear my old clothes, but I know that will change.

I saw my surgeon Wed, weighed in, I wanted to cry. I lost 3lbs since my surgery on Feb 2 putting me @195. This was my 5 week followup appointment. I'm frustrated. I'm still losing inches in my waist, I had to start wearing my husband's jeans because mine no longer fit. Even his jeans are almost too big for me, but, I don't think I lost enough to drop another size in mine yet.. i have followed the diet faithfully, kept my portions small, none of the bad stuff, I just don't get it, neither does the surgeon's office. Unlike many of you I don't have a NUT, the office doesn't offer that service. So I didn't get the counseling that so many of you seem to have. I feel hopelessly lost. Support group is a joke, one of the nurses spends an hour lecturing the group about the postop lifestyle, there's no time to interact with other patients and just socialize. I feel overwhelmingly lost. I know I'm rambling but I don't know what to do.

I do not remember how much I lost the first month, I was not so concerned about the numbers as I knew I am losing, anyways, I lost 50 lbs in the first 3 months.

As far as sizes goes I think it depends on your body shape. I am bottom heavy, hourglass but more of a pear shape, so it is harder for me to lose from my lovely behind and do not get me started about my stocky legs!!!!!!

I started as a size 20 (UK), lost about 90 pounds and I am in size 14 (UK) - I think that is size 12US - jeans, and I am stalling big time, but my top half was dropping faster, I am in size 12 and been there for ages...weird... Also, when you start out, lets say you are in size 20 jeans you have to lose quite lot to go down to 18, but as far as I know when you are like size 12 in jeans you have to lose much less to go down to size 10, like those sizes are closer to eachother, I hope I make sense...

I was born with a well endowed backside, even as a skinny person. I got a large belly after 3 csections, otherwise I'm top heavy. My belly has shrunk a lot, I don't look perpetually pregnant all the time anymore.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
