I don't know how to cope with this extreme depression

My name is Candice and I live in west Texas. I've been BIG all my life. I had surgery March of last year and I've lost around 100 lbs and then just stopped. I have another 100 lbs I want to loose and skin that needs to be taken off.. I have recently become lost and unbearably depressed. I know I should be happy, I should be working as hard as I can to get out of this stall, but instead I wallow... I cry.. I've gotten so bad that I now know it's true, you can be so depressed that it actually hurts. I live in an area that doesn't have therapists or places for help with things like this. I don't have friends, they've all turned their backs on me...

I'm lost and don't know what to do.

Hi Candice, I'm so sorry you are depressed. I understand it is very common when you've made such big changes in your life, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with.

I think that by reaching out here you are taking a positive step. I've struggled with depression for many years and am lucky enough to have professional help. My therapist tells me that when I am starting to feel depressed, the best thing I can do is exercise and spend time being engaged with other people. It's very difficult to do when I am sad but always helps.

I'm sorry to hear you are going through a rough time. Hang in there. I'm not a therapist, and I haven't played one on TV either, but I feel confident saying that rough times will come but they don't last forever!

Good luck to you!

Congratulations on a 100 pound weight loss, that is fabulous! As far as depression your primary care physician or surgeon may be able to prescribe an anti-depressant to get you through this until you can find a support system. I would reach out to them, don't suffer in silence.

Hi Candice,

What you are feeling is REAL and is not your fault. Please talk to your doctor honestly and tell him/her that you need help. This is nothing to be ashamed of. When we are feeling our most depressed, that is when it is the hardest to reach out for help, but you MUST do that for yourself so you can have the energy again to continue the next part of your weight loss adventure. This is a temporary setback. Please find one trusted person in your life to help you through this and guide you to some professional help. You will be so glad you did. I have had some very severe bouts with depression and I want to encourage you that you CAN feel better again, even though it doesn't feel like it right now. You have many people here who care. Let us know how you are doing, ok?
