Any April Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon said absolutely no steroids or NSAIDs for six weeks post-surgery because they cause leaks.

The steroids can inhibit healing by suppressing the immune system making you more prone to leaks, yes. The ER dr put me on the pred and then my surgeon took me off. The NSAIDS my surgeon said I should really never take...which sucks because ibuprofen is one of the few things which actually works for menstrual cramps for me :(

I had the SADI DS and I can never take NSAIDS, ibuprofen or asprin because the will cause ulcers.

Hi Ladies! I am officially 4 days post-op. My surgery was Monday and they literally had me walking after I woke up from the surgery. I didn't have any gas pain, maybe due to all the walking they had me do. I have had a very sharp pain, feels like runners cramp in my left side which I am told is normal and even that has gotten better every day. My only other issue is constipation.... I know tmi, but drinking lots of milk of mag in hopes of some relief. Feeling great surprisingly, slowly but surely on the mend!

We got this!!!! On our way to being healthy and sexy!!!!

Jill

I'm having difficulty getting over the exhaustion of not getting many calories. Pain is better down about 10lbs I think, my scale is going a bit wonky. But I'm 5 days out and the pain is much better.

Sleeved 4/2 and returned to work yesterday. I'm having a terrible time planning for meals and getting my Water in. I've basically reverted back to full liquids. Really hoping I hit my stride and get this figured out.

Physically, though, I feel pretty good! A tiny bit of soreness in my midsection and nausea if I take my meds with the wrong foods, but I think I'm getting the hang of that part.

Well I'm just about 1 month out and feeling great. The main thing that I've learned so far, is that no matter how much you read up on VSG, your own journey is the only way you truly know. And there has been a few surprises for me.

First of all, the surgery was great and the recovery went well. I'm down more than 40 lbs already, and even ran my first 5K in a long time (with my doctor's consent). So that was my first surprise - how quickly I was able to get back at it. I am following my doctor's orders - even getting back into the gym tonight with a personal trainer.

I am also back on "real" food now, leading to the second surprise: which is how little my stomach can hold. I was told before hand, and I read and read and read about it. But wow!! It's an adjustment actually SEEING how little food you put on your plate. It took some time but I now realize how much I had been over eating in the past.

The last surprise is Protein. Well, actually how much I am able to get on much reduced portion sizes. I have read the troubles of many regarding consuming enough, but I seem to be doing ok with the following meals:

Breakfast:

Protein Shake made with 8 oz of unsweetened almond milk, powdered Vitamins and a scoop of Barleans Superfruit Greens (22 grams of protein)

Morning Snack:

1 12 oz Decaf coffee, Black

1 20 oz Vitamin Water Zero

Lunch:

Lean meat (2 small slices of steak) a small piece of cheese and some guacamole.

Afternoon Snacks

1 Quest Protein Bar (20 grams of protein)

1 20 oz Bottle of Isopure Clear Protein Drink (40 grams of protein)

Dinner:

Few ounces of lean meat and some veggies.

Evening Snacks:

A few Popped chips

A small protein shake (11 grams of protein).

Hope this helps. Interested in hearing from others.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
