5 weeks out....exercise now the new goal

Recommended Posts

I have been lucky.... VSG surgery on January 20th and so far 35 lbs down. No pain or complications... I'd say I am at 100% ...actually before surgery I wasn't even close to 75%...lol Weight loss has slowed a bit after transition from liquid stage to soft foods. after surgery a solid 10 lb loss The next 2 weeks had solid 8 lb losses the last 3 weeks have been in the 3 lb/week range with everyday weights bouncing up and down day to day. I feel now is the time to ramp up exercise that I have lost enought AND healed enough to get my goal of at least 10k steps with the fitbit AND 30 minutes eliptical a day.... Has anyone else started this early...or late to start a regimen? I will say that after today's exercise I do feel great! hoping over the next few days to report bigger weight losses! BTW met both goals today of 30 eliptical and 11.5k steps!

Good for you! Its awesome to feel so great, yeah? I was sleeved on Jan 19 and I haven't started real exercise yet because I have Lyme disease and am waiting to get my IV line out. Which may be on Friday, after 6 long months. But I feel ready to work out now where I haven't before so it must be about the right time. I hope I'll feel as good as you clearly do. Keep up the good work!

you are doing fabulous! I was also sleeved 1/20 and have lost 32 lbs!! I have also stalled last week/this week. I started last week increasing my walking at night. ( I need to get a fit bit for sure!) I feel wonderful! Better than before surgery. And now that I can have caffeine, I'm not sure I want to go back to it and feel great without it! (I have a 2 year old and really struggled giving up caffeine!) I have not struggled with one thing since my surgery. Good luck to you!

@@jjmcrash218 - I resumed Water aerobics 3 weeks post op. 3 - 4 days a week. I'm now doing Water aerobics 5 days a week, low impact aerobics 1 day a week. I'm hoping the weather clears so I can begin riding my bike again. I also just bought this kettle ball workout and I plan to do that at home on Sunday.

Hi All,

I was also sleeved on 1/20 but I'm finding it that I have no energy to exercise yet. I feel tired all the time, even though I get in my Protein and liquids. How many calories are you guys consuming now and should we be worries about burning off too many calories when working out?

I have found tons of energy after losing around 30lbs. Actually energy to burn... I was content to sit still for the longest periods of time before surgery...now am not. My total weightloss with the sleeve should approach about 80 pounds (from roughly 258 to 178ish) and right now I am already at the midpoint of that loss (221 ( 37 lbs lost)). I am finding in my situation that as the weight comes off...it's almost like I can move better, and have a better center of balance....also my joints, my back etc all seem to funtion better.....am I 100% ...ready to run 3 miles? absolutley not... but a one mile walk now dosen't come with aches pains and loss of breath....I actually find it enjoyable. It really is baby steps to a life change... but you have to make that first step... Energy or not KC start with the smallest walk around the block... maybe 2 blocks tomorrow...stick on the headsets and go for a short stroll. I purchased a fitbit to make it more competative but today pedometers can start at as little as $10! A pedometer can get you to beat your step total every day up to the reccomended 10,000 steps a day.... good luck!

oh and I am consuming around 800-1000 calories a day

@@KCLatina - Are you on any Vitamins and supplements? Will you get bloodwork at 6 weeks? Ask your doctor if your levels are okay.

I'm ready to get out and kill it however my doctor cautioned me against doing a heavy duty work out for at least two months. I have been getting in 4 miles of walking/running every 3 days. I feel like I'm not losing enough with all of this being done and eating properly, but now that I've looked at a lot of my January buddies, we are all around the same mark for weight loss so I guess my 35 lbs isn't that bad!

Best wishes on your work out and keep up the good work! I need to find some more motivation so I can burn off more weight.

@@BLERDgirl thanks for the concern! I've been taking the bariatric Vitamins three times a day and the Calcium chews three times a day. Do you take anything else?

I'm scheduled for a 10 week follow up where I get labs done at the end of the month... Fingers crossed!

I'm actually giving in and getting the Fitbit this week to start somewhere.

I take the following:

multi am/pm

D3 am/pm

calcium citrate +D am/pm

B12 sublingual - once a week

I was also taking ompreazole 40mgs 1x a day, but the acid issue seems to have resolved itself. I have't taken a pill for week now.

I resumed Water aerobics at week 3, but I was walking 30 minutes a day from day 1. Added weight lifting around week 5. Workout now 5 - 6 days a week.

  • UPDATE... Exercise has absolutely moved things along. My Nurse practitioner (at 6 week appointment earlier this week suggested that a mild laxative every so often can and should be used. You should go #2 once a day at this point. Concentrating on Protein (ie cheese et al ) can cause a little back up until stage that gives us choices like salads and legumes. Well this week I can report a 5 lb loss. Got 5 good days of exercise (10k steps). and used a laxative once. the weight loss wasn't temporary either... been losing for 3 straight days .2 to .6 lbs a day. Hope this helps!

Try buying the 2 0z Pocket Protein. You can order online if you can't find. Gives you a great boost of energy.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
