Happy birthday? No, not Happy! Rant

Recommended Posts

It's my birthday, my 27th bday and I'm like 11 days post op. My first without a great dinner and cake. I'm struggling today. All I want is to lose some weight. I don't want to be classified as "morbidly obese" anymore. I wanna go on roller coasters and feel comfortable when I fly. I need this surgery. I'm glad I had it but...... Today I hate it! I'm so weak it's insane. I've had about 12 oz of Fluid today and one bite of yogurt. That's really me trying all day. I tried drinking more and I barfed. Barfed all over my backseat. Today I want cake, I want to go to dinner, I want to have energy to enjoy a walk with my family... And I can't! My body is too weak, my sleeve is being an ass and I'm regretting my decision today! Why can't I be one of the ones that can drink 64oz of Water and 3 shakes a day? I know it will get better right? It has to. I know it's still fresh and new but I'm suppose to start soft solids on Monday and I can't tolerate full liquids. YA I've lost 25 pounds in 11 days, I'm happy about that ....but not really. My husband is very sad because he sees me like this. I'm depressed. I'm never sad. I'm always happy and cheerful.. What have I done? My kids need me fully functioning.... I just wanna scream... Rant over

Happy Birthday!???? The post -op phase is depressing while we wait for our bodies to adjust. I wish I knew what to say to cheer you up but I get how you're feeling. Your 27th birthday might suck right now but I'll bet your 28th will be fabulous. You should print your rant to pull out this time next year to see how much you will accomplish in a year with your weight loss journey

Awww, Happy Birthday! It will get better. I was super bitter about having my favorite thing in the world taking from me: (food). After awhile I realized it was really head hunger.

You'll be feeling 100% in no time.

Happy Birthday! I agree with what @ said. You will look back at this birthday next year and realize this was just a small bump in the road of your journey. If you aren't thrilled you did this by your next birthday, I will be very surprised. Hang in there, it gets so much easier! I promise!

This is a big change and you will adjust soon. Pretty soon that big meal and cake will not be a big deal. It's head hunger and it will go away. Btw, Happy Birthday!!

That is rough. I don't know what I would have done trying to Celebrate anything in my first few weeks post-op. Just try to envision how amazing your 28th birthday will be and focus on that image!

My birthday was 17 days post-op. I took two bites of cake and it tasted like plastic. I haven't had any desire for any since then.

Hang in there, it gets better!! I'm three months post-op tomorrow and about 13 lbs from my surgeon's goal.

It'll totally be worth it!!

Happy birthday hun! I promise it gets better. The first few weeks post op suck. You will get through it, but you won't be happy doing it. Just remember we all wish you the best and next year you will have to do something extra special to make up for a crappy birthday this year.

You guys are really the ones keeping me together right now. Thank you so much! I know it has to get better but right now it sucks. I'm at the surgeons office. They are going to check for a stricture. Hoping either way they find out.

Well they did a test and said its a stricture and inflammation. Unfortunately they can't dilate it because I'm barely 12 days post op and they worry that it will cause a rupture. So... I'm going to the er for iv fluids. They are going to give me strong steroids to try and decrease the swelling to see how bad the stricture is. They said the next option is a feeding tube! I told them I'd rather hold off on the feeding tube. Hopefully the steroids help a little.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
