Got banded in Springfield MO??

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I have enjoyed reading all of your post. I also live in Springfield, MO. I went to a seminar tonight that was given by Dr. Edwards. I have turned in all my paper work to Mary. I am hoping to hear something this week. My insurance will not cover the surgery so I will be self pay for the surgery. I am very excited about having the lap-band surgery.

Kimberly - I hope your mom is doing okay. My name is actually Kimberly, too.

Thanks for letting me join your thread.

Kimberly ;)

This is a question to the individuals that had Dr. Edwards for their surgery. Did you like Dr. Edwards? Is it hard to get an appointment for a fill? I have my first appointment with Dr. Edwards on Jan.3. He seemed really nice at the seminar. I am getting really excited.

I called to make sure that my Gynecologist was okay with the lap-band sugery since I want to have kids in the future. His nurse called and it sounded like my Gynecologist does not know very much about the lap-band procedure. I do not know if this should be a concern. Does anyone have any thoughts on pregnancy and the lap-band. Thanks!

I Love Dr. Edwards.. and Mary T.

I like him so much, I signed up my Mother for her band, but she is having trouble with her heart, and is not yet able to get banded. Today(the19th) was her scheduled date for the band surgery, before complications pre-op. We will have to see what happens for her.

It was about a 3-4 week wait on fills, but they have made some recent changes, and I heard it's maybe a week right now. They were only able to do fills on Thursdays..now they do Fridays too.

My opinion, would be band and pregnancy will be fine. I have only one child now, and she was pre-band, I may want another later... and that was part of my decision. They can "empty" your band, if you needed for more ability to "eat for two" (just ask Dr. Edwards about it). My call back was...that my Gynecologist was all for it. (Safer than being pregnant and obese.) Who is your Gynecologist, if you don't mind to share? Good luck and ask tons of questions to doc. and to those already banded! Everyone has a different experience.

Hello everyone!!

I got my band on Monday the 17th. Everything went really smooth. The surgery was scheduled at 9:00 but they didn't actually take me in until 10:00. My daughters said it took exactly 45 minutes! I was wide awake before I even left the recovery room, was back in my room for about 15 minutes and the nurse said that as soon as I could pee, I was ready to go home! Had no problem with that either! So I was on my way home by 1:30. First day wasn't bad, I slept quite a bit. 2nd day I was in quite a bit of pain and the pain meds they gave me made me feel really weak and sick to my stomach. Got up yesterday morning and decided to stay off the pain meds, just took extra strength tylenol. This morning I have very little pain, no nausea. Haven't had any appetite yet, trying to eat a little just to keep up my strength. Thanks for all your prayers - I'll be doing the same for all of you!

God Bless

Hi all! Welcome Princess and Granny! :clap2:

Kimberly (mazie) - I'm glad to hear your mom is doing well! I hope everything still works out for the band when she is up and running again.

Granny - congrats on the surgery! I'm glad to hear everything went well. Keep us posted with your progress.

Princess - I was banded on 8/29 by Dr. E and I absolutely LOVE him! I also like most of his staff. As a matter of fact, I am visiting with him in just a few hours. :( Good luck with everything and keep us posted.

I'm glad to see we are becoming a little more active in here. I know I'm partly to blame for the quietness. Before surgery I was on here 24/7...since surgery I might check in once in a while. I will try to do better.

Hi Holly,

I probably saw you Monday night at the seminar. I was also there. My insurance will not pay for the procedure so I am going to have to pay for it myself. I want to get the procedure done ASAP, too. Mary said the first day long behavorial class is Jan 28, so I do not think I can have the surgery before Jan. 28. My appointment with Dr. Edwards is Jan. 3.

Maziemommy- My Gynecologist is Dr. McCorcle with Primrose OBGYN. I agree with you that pregnancy with the band would be a lot better than being obese and pregnant. I just wish he knew more about the band. It would make me feel better, but it has not stopped me from wanting the procedure.

Hi Holly, Welcome! This is the first time I have heard of several people with this surgery, at one place. I did not know anyone with a lap-band, before I got mine. Is everyone there doing good with their bands. Does your insurance require a long wait or extra stuff? Good luck.

Princess21... I think we were posting at the same time.....

You say, you wish you knew more about the band, any questions I could answer for you, from my personal experience?

I would be happy to answer anything I can / keep in mind everyone's journey is a bit different.

WOW... that is amazing. I bet you feel different after loosing almost 100 pounds. Do u ever still eat sweets?... chocolate? I have a hard time with chocolate. Did u have to completely change what type of food u eat. (healthy vs. non-healthy)

I just had some questions. So if u try to overeat when u have the band, will u be able to or will u throw up?

Sorry for asking all these questions.

~Holly~

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
