I have type 2 diabetes and I was wondering if the surgery has changed your blood sugar numbers....and if so, how soon after surgery could you see a difference?

I was diagnosed type II about a year and a half before my RnY. I took my last set of pills the night before surgery- my sugar started dropping immediately after the procedure, and since about 3 days out from surgery, my sugar hasn't gone above 100. I don't take a single medication anymore other than Vitamins. :)

I was taken off my type 2 meds just before surgery. I haven't taken any since. My fasting blood sugar levels are in the low 70s. After meals it runs in the low 80s. I'm 7 weeks out from RNY.

I was sleeved 12/17/14. Diagnosed with T2 diabetes 4 years ago. On 3 oral and 2 injectable medications prior to surgery. And immediately post-op, drum roll please! None, zip, zilch, nada! No more diabetic medications! Blood sugars consistently 80-90! Also off some of my blood pressure meds, too!

I was type 2 as well. I stopped taking my meds the night before surgery. Immediately following surgery my sugars started coming down. I am now 3.5 months post op. My fast sugar is consistently in the low 70s and I am usually in the low 80s 2 hours after a meal.

It is truly amazing what happens post surgery.

Good luck!

Same here... type 2, and took my last meds the night before surgery. My readings are great 70's for fasting and 80-90 a few hours after my meals. For the most part RNY cures most type 2's, if you stick to the program.

I am also a Type 2 diabetic and was on Metformin at the time but before surgery I was taken off my medication and ever since my sugars have run normal. When I came home I tested often for the first 30 days and now I test less often. Doctors told me they know there is a link between WLS and the resolution (for some people) of Type 2 diabetes but they haven't exactly figured out why.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
