Introduction

Hi all! So happy I found this site. Well to begin I have struggled woth dieting since my 20's. I turned 38 last year and had finally had enough. After 4 kids my max weight had reached up to 267 lbs. I couldn't believe it. It's like size 12 gradually went to size 20. While my hudbad is wonderful and loves me at any size I knew the weight gain was unhealthy. I read somewhere that losing weight after 35 gets more difficult and it was true. I had enough of 20 lbs here and there. So I consulted with my doctor after medication for weight management for 3 months I lost 20 lbs but in my heart I had decided on surgery. I have no medical complications and I actually love my veggies heck I evrn enjoy working out. The problem was the weight was not motivating and the habit of overeating was so entrenched. After weeks of classes I finally had surgery on 1/12/15. Let me also add that 4 months prior to surgery I stopped taking the pills and had gained 12 lbs back. So my weight a month before surgery was 263. At my pre op appointment doctor told me to lose 10 lbs in 3 weeks whuch was also over the Christmas holidays. Talk about stressful but I did it on the day of surgery I weighed 252.5 lbs. After surgery was horrific. I am 6 days past surgery and I still haven't mastered my water intake or my protein shakes. I will say that I discovered that warm or hot water with a ginger tea bag is my new best friend. I am also trying to do an once of protien at the top of every hour. I have no clue how I could eat food right now although I so badly want to be able to eat. Not over eat but have something of substance the past two weeks just seems so unhealthy I weighed today and I have lost 10 lbs since surgery. Not sure how I feel about that.

Welcome! You're off to a good start. I will say this. WLS will teach you patience and consistency. I don't know what your doctor's protocol is but mind was 2 weeks all liquids > 2 weeks purees > 2 weeks soft foods then everything as tolerated. I made a personal decision to not have breads or crackers until I hit maintenance. They are slider foods, food with minimal nutritional payoff that are easy to eat. I would prefer to limit my carbs to complex carbs instead. Those first 2 weeks of full liquids were a challenge. You have to gradually work up to getting in 60+gms of Protein and 64+ounces of fluids. I did both peppermint and ginger tea. Once I hit purees my tummy suddenly preferred ice cold drinks and I started putting ice in all my beverages. That first egg when I hit purees was heavenly! 10 lbs is a wonderful amount of weight to lose in just a week. Compare that to the 3 weeks pre-op it took you to lose 10 lbs. You're now losing 3 times as fast!

We have all been we're you are the first 2 weeks are a struggle & at the very first days after surgery I kept saying to my husband why did I do this...I should not have done this... Those first days of those tiny sips thinking ..really? But it keeps getting easier and better! You will slowly get better at drinking and getting your protein in. It takes getting used to but it happens. I remember thinking OMG I will never be able to chug down a glass of cold lemon water again which was my favorite, but now I can drink quickly about 1/2 glass...so I am happy with that ! Trust us it all gets better & you probley will be able to eat just about everything again but with much better moderation. Me & about 99% of people on here would agree it's the best thing we ever did for ourselves & our health! Best of luck to you ! You will do great!
