I need some input...Am I too tight?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Question to all lapbanders. I just had a recent fill 1/7/15, that put me in 6.5 cc in my band. After that fill, I cannot sleep at night, kept having acid reflux at night, coughing ...these things never happened to me until this last fill. Moreover, I kept on throwing up esp when I eat Protein like chicken. Even oatmeal in the morning seems to be a problem. I guess I shouldn't eat in the morning?

Any advice would help. I have scheduled a visit on 1/13/15 with my surgeon. I think I should ask them to remove some fluid....

Thanks for your time...

I had to have a small unfill at one point and then a couple of months later I went back to have a small fill. This is the adjustable part of the adjustable lapband system but I agree it can be very difficult to know whether there are other factors. I am tighter when I'm stressed or if I have a cold. I think it was a sinus infection that took me back for the unfill. My most recent fill seemed "tight" but I let it settle in and now it seems perfect. Conversely I have had fills that didn't seem to do anything until four or five days later when I felt a new kind of "restriction." (I put these words in quotes because we know the Lapband is not about restriction -- see the link below to some great info on fills.) I don't eat in the mornings because I'm not hungry -- that's my policy, eat when I'm hungry and don't eat if I'm not hungry. I was very restrictive from years of dieting so actually the first part is harder than the second -- the letting myself have food. I think many people feel their bands are tighter in the morning. As for reflux, that is definitely a sign of being too tight and something you should discuss ASAP with your doctor. Best wishes -- you are doing well! Keep all your appointments and let us know how you're doing.

I would worry that you might be tight. Coughing at night, not sleeping, acid re flux and vomiting are not par for the course with the band. They are red flags. The fact that you are vomiting and have acid re flux can be worrisome for lots of reasons, so definitely see your Dr. as soon as you can you have 1/13 as your follow up but I assume that's a typo since today is the 15th??

In the mean time I would go back to basics liquids, & mushy foods. Try not to eat 3 hours before bed time to help reduce the night cough and reflex. If you have trouble with Water then you need to see the Dr. ASAP to take some Fluid out.

I waited out a fill, and had some other issues with medication irritation that cause a minor dilation of my pouch which resulted in having all the fluid removed from my band. I'm glad they did it in retrospect because I would hate to lose my band but it's been a rough road and a tough road back to the green.

Good luck and let us know how you are doing!!

yes its a typo, my appointment is 1/19, Monday...

Thanks for the response. I miss sleeping at night in comfort. With the acid reflux, I wake up every 2 hours......

I think when the band is too tight, it's not good . From my experience, since I cannot have Protein, I just eat slider food that are high in calories. It defeats the purpose of the band. I cannot wait til I get an unfill.

Yes I am very uncomfortable and frustrated. I cannot sleep at night and anything I put in my mouth I feel like I want to throw up. I find it miraculous that carbs slides down well........Cannot go to my surgeon sooner than Monday....I am counting the days

@@toothfairy86 take it easy till then so your not in any pain OK? Let me know how your doing after you see the doc on Monday!!

I'm convinced carbs are the devil  no matter what's going on with us they are always the easiest things to eat! I remember when I was little Mom would give me crackers and toast and stuff like that when I was sick. I'm sure it's because they stayed down when other foods just would not including chicken Soup.

I still didn't sleep well last night...what's new? lol My band likes all the bad food and can't take good Protein. Hmm....can't wait to have to an unfill.

Let you know what happens on Monday at my surgeon's office....Hope I'll finally get a good sleep Monday night.....

I finally went to my surgeon yesterday and had .75 cc taken out of the band. What a difference. The cough disappeared and I am no longer vomitting. My only concern is I am able to take in more food . Just afraid of ganing weight but I'd rather have this feeling rather than not sleeping and throwing up...

Just have to move more, eat less.....:-)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
