How large is the company? Odds are if HR or a health assessment is asking your boss will never even see those forms.

your place of business cannot request your actual medical records without signed authorization from you. So, to answer your question, No, they can't find out you had the surgery any other way than you telling them. You do not have to answer the question.

What everyone else said - I would say this is a good-intentioned attempt to ascertain any restrictions, but it's none of their business.

Is your manager looking at that information? It seems like that is HR paperwork and they shouldn't give your manager any of that information. what type of work is it? Kinda strange that that is an actually question

@@sukik … You are not required to release any personal health information that you do not choose to. Just like insurance companies can no longer deny you coverage for pre-existing conditions, an employer can not refuse you a job based on your medical history. If it were a case where the condition precluded you from being able to handle your job duties effectively and safely, that is a different story, but because you had your tonsils taken out, your appendix removed, or part of your stomach taken out is none of their business whatsoever!

Unless there is a rule that all surgeries must be disclosed at the time that you have them, I don't see why filling it in would hurt you. Now according to HIPAA, you do NOT have to disclose that information unless it is relevant to the work you are doing, and I wouldn't fill it out, but even if you did, you shouldn't penalized for it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
