im two weeks and a day out and not on soft foods yet ( tomorrow supposedly) so I wont say bad or good because i'm bound to have a little something bad. the textbook answer is, Proteins first , then carbs, and that's all carbs. But I cannot in good conscience advise you because I crave any carb at all lol

Good Luck.

I'm 3 weeks post op. I'm curious to see what you guys think.

Do you think shredded wheat Cereal is a good idea? It gets mushy in milk. So.....??

Were you given any guidelines to follow? You'd get a little Protein depending on the milk you use, but I don't know if I would eat it. It sounds like more carbs than Protein.< /p>

I'm on a 5 phase food plan. I'm on 2 now ( well, today the put me back to phase 1) and Im a month out on Jan 2.

It's good to take it slow and go with what your nutritionist says. Stick with fluids and Protein. That's what I did. It's more important to get those in. He protein helps with healing. And the fluids... The more the better :)

No I wasn't really given any guidelines. Just that I have to eat mushy pureed food for four weeks. Then on to soft foods for another four weeks.

I checked the box, the cereal actually has 5 grams of Protein. Plus the Protein in the milk.

I don't know that I wanna eat it. I'm just curious if anyone else has tried it.

So one biscuit is 5 gms of protein, plus say ½ cup of 2% milk is another 8gms. I guess my concern would be even if you let it get mushy in milk will your new tummy be able to digest it. We're told to avoid fibrous veggies for the same reason. I guess you could give it a shot. I haven't tried it because I'm not a big cereal eater other than grits or oatmeal. I'm also avoiding simple carbs as much as possible.

I tried it once ... the thing I found initially was the large dose of Fiber was not too much fun to my system ... caused some serious cramping and diarrhea .... turns out later that some of that was due to newly developed lactose intolerance. So, if it were me, I would start slow or just consider waiting on that deal :)

My nutritionist actually recommends Shredded Wheat around week 6 or 7. LIke anything, start small, chew lots. As for Protein, toss a little unflavored Protein powder in your milk to boost the Protein if you need. Good luck.

At week 4 I can have cereal as long as it let it get mushy in milk. I can't stand mushy cereal so I won't be trying it but it is allowed in my plan.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
