How are you eating pre-op?

Recommended Posts

I'm one who doesn't have a pre-diet, so I seem to vacillate between wanting to eat all the things I'll never eat again, and wanting to practice my new skills--chewing very thoroughly, no Water with meals, drinking 8 glasses a day, focusing on Protein. Mostly I've been doing the practice, but I admit to having a red velvet donut from an amazing local place this weekend. I guess I'm starting to mourn food already.

Thoughts?

Wow! Lucky you:) I can understand wanting to have a little of this or that before surgery just because you won't or shouldn't have it afterwards but be careful because if you take in to much sugar, carbs and fat, it will enlarge your liver and that will then make it difficult for your surgeon to safely get to your stomach to do the surgery. That is why most have the pre-op diet. Heck, I did a pre pre-op diet to prepare for the actual pre-op lol. I am so glad I did. It helped so much. I say if you have something you want one last time, go for it. But only a bite or two and make it that one time. It's good discipline now to teach yourself to eat different so that you succeed after surgery. Good luck hun and Congrats on your upcoming surgery:)

My surgeon's request for pre-surgery weight loss is 5% of total body weight, which in my case is about 15 pounds. For the two weeks leading up to surgery they ask patients to follow a 1300 kcal/day with mix of 110g or more Protein, 100g or less carbs, and 55g or less fat, all the way up until surgery. However, my nutritionist gave me her blessing to have proper good-bye meals for Christmas and New Years Eve so long as I get back on track immediately after.

I'm mostly thrilled to say my good-byes to favorite foods all the way up until the surgery (which is 1/6 for me), but part of me wishes I had the pre-op liquid diet to help get my head in the game and sober me up a bit. I feel like it's almost a rite of passage and I worry that I am not taking it as seriously as those who are more restricted.

I guess there's just no pleasing us. The ones with the liquid diet hate it, and the ones without it feel left out. ;-)

I start the liquid diet Monday and I am starting to stress. I am super ready but I know it will be mentally painful. Today I made notes of all the things I need to buy for next week, the hospital and the first three weeks after surgery. I bought a timer to wear so I can time between sips and meals and drinking.

I have to be on the liquid diet for two weeks. It is boost and boost alone! Ugg. I hate the taste of it as it is really sweet. Anyway, I think that yes, it will be more mentally challenging than anything else. I started yesterday and to remind me of why I am doing this I keep telling myself that nothing tastes as good as being slim will feel. It is my new montra!

Day 1 done of my pre-op diet. Not too bad but I figure tomorrow and new year's eve are going to be super hard.

Last night I tortured my poor son and I made him take all my measurements and take my "before" photos. I weighted myself this morning. I am so excited to see all these numbers drop!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
