Not losing any weight since day of surgery

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 11/10/14 and I've only lost 9 lbs. but hay it's better than gaining, which would normally be happening this time of year. I was discouraged as well when I read other lost 25-30 lbs. oh well I am older and possible have less to lose. I can't fixate on it, I need to follow the program and I am told the weight will come off. I have lost a lot of inches down a few sizes already. Hang in there we can't get too discourage we need to stay positive.

No weight loss in 2ish weeks post-op is most likely due to Fluid retention. Having your stomach cut out causes inflammation and our bodies respond by hanging on to Water. It will start to come off. Once it does, it might be slow, or it might be fast. We are all individuals, but one thing for sure, it will come off. Your body just can't hang on to weight when you are taking in so few calories. Deep breath.

Thanks all! The scale is moving. Not that fast but you are right...it's not going up which it would normally be doing this time of year. Adjusting my attitude and moving forward! Happy Holidays!

I'm getting 76g grams of Protein per day the last 5 days, although the first 6 days I did only 20g per day if that!. Can't handle the store bought Protein Shakes since surgery as they make me nauseous now for some reason. So I've been making my own protein smoothie made with greek yogurt skim milk and fruit. I walk at least a mile everyday. My daily meals are 3 yogurt smoothies at 22g protein per, cream Soup 7g protein once a day, Carnation Instant Breakfast sugar free w/skim milk 13g protein once a day. I drink caffeine free Crystal light Ice Tea all day long. Again this morning scale hasn't budged. smh

I suggest tracking your calories. Depending on how much milk/yogurt/fruit you're using in each shake, each one can easily be 200-300 calories and high in sugar. Add the soup and carnation, you could be at 1200 calories/day. I'm just estimating with the info you've given so my math could be wrong. But, for your reference, I'm almost 9 months out and on 1200 calories max/day. At less than a month, I was taking in 400-600 calories. It's great that you're getting so much protein but the advantage of the shake powders (syntrax, etc) is that you get a lot of protein with little sugar and minimal calories.

Agreed that sound like too much food.I would do away with the carnation as that's likely to be the highest calorie food you're eating. I'm 3 mths out and my doctor still wants me between 600 - 800 calories. I went through several varieties of protein before I found some I could stand. I use CVS whey powder mostly. I make a shake with that and FAGE plain greek yogurt. I mix it with a ½ a cup of unsweetened almond milk, occasionally juice and Water or ice. It come in at roughly 31 -33 gms of protein. I then can eat foo for lunch and dinner if I choose and still get in my protein with time to sip my water.

I dropped the Carnation Instant Breakfast. So now I drink just one Protein shake which is 42g of protein........Protein shake Per 8 oz if I add non fat milk powder and 1oz of feta for extra Protein its about 275cal. So I'm doing roughly 600-800cal per day. Went to doctor yesterday and scale is finally moving Yaay!!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
