Last week, I met with the psychiatrist for my required psych eval; which is a requirement prior to surgery. She asked me if I had any traumatic experiences in my life. I told her yes. (SHOULD HAVE SAID NO, WHO HASN'T BEEN THROUGH BAD EXPERIENCES??)

She asked what and I told her that I was with my 8 year old nephew when he was hit bay a car (1989), my other nephew committed suicide (2010) and I lost my father this past July.

Another question was do I have sleep problems. I answered yes. (MISTAKE #2). However, I take phentermine. One of the side effects is sleep problems. Next, she ask me if I eat when I can't sleep. I answered, YES (UGHHH Mistake #3) I took the 30 minute test, and went my way. She called back saying that before I can proceed, she thinks that I should seek counseling for trauma/PTSD. She said that my test came back inconclusive. She even asked me if I lied on the test.

I was so pissed by the end of the conversation that I told her I would seek out another facility/surgeon to perform my surgery and she was wrong in her findings. Since realizing that night eating is not healthy, I've stopped doing it. I keep bottled Water by the bed and watch TV.

In April, I did change my lifestyle, I have lost 30 pounds, my BMI has dropped 12 points and I exercise more. I did think it over, I love my WLS Doctor and I saw a counselor yesterday. I felt like a fish out of water but I made it through. We talked, he wrote his notes down and asked me if I really needed to be there.

Has anyone else had to deal with this?

Inconclusive just means they have no evidence that you should or shouldn't have the surgery. That's not really a bad thing. It seems like mine said that too. I wasn't recommended to see anyone else she just said "I can't say for defiant you should have surgery and I can't say you shouldn't " it pretty much means they don't have a decision either way so thanks insurance company for paying us 400 dollars!! Of course I was approved for the surgery they couldn't very well tell me no. The test they give is odd. She also said from my test she "graded" it said I "may use the healthcare system a lot more" or something like that, in other words I may be one of those people who runs to the Dr if I think any little thing is wrong. I told her no lady the only time I've been to the DR in the last 15 yrs is to have my 3 kids, and now after surgery I only go for check ups. So the test isn't 100% accurate. You may benefit from seeing someone but if you don't I don't think you will be denied especially if your results are "inconclusive". It's good that you answered honestly. They asked me about eating when I'm bored "umm yeah duh" and if I "test my food while I'm cooking" yep! Doesn't everybody? Anywho try not to let it bother you so.

I have a GREAT psychologist whom I'm seeing privately. He is also the person who did my bariatric intake interview / testing / interpretations.

But I swear that some of your stories sound like there are some incompetent buffoons out there doing clinical psychology work for a living who don't know how to interpret psychometric instruments and don't understand the strengths and weaknesses of those tools.

Those tests should not be used like Tarot cards. (joke)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
