Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Recommended Posts

It is quiet. I think our enthusiasm for bycyling is temporarily frozen. HP is in school, D isn't posting as often, TX has other obligations. So yeah we've been more quiet....

It will pick up again I'm sure.

I bought a Schwin recumbent bike at Sears before surgery and started riding. My rule was before I watch TV or surf the net, I have to get in some kind of ride. I started with 20 minutes a day and was wiped out. I am not 7 months post-op and I ride 60 minutes a day, and knock out 16 miles. I either watch TV or listen to music while I ride. It's cold in Atlanta right now but comes Spring, I am getting outside and riding!

I also want to start cross training and incorporate running (never been a runner) into my daily routine.

My daily routine is 10 minutes stretching, 250 ab crunches, 60 minutes on the bike, 250 more ab crunches and as many push ups as I can do on the staircase - currently 25 - 30.

I have lost 149 lbs since mid-May (surgery June 18th) and I have never felt better!

Wow Mick, that's very cool.

What kind of biking are you looking to do out of doors? Many of us started on hybrids or mountain bikes and have moved toward road biking.

Cross training is great. They say swimming is the best to help regulate your breathing. I can't seem to want to swim, but I do bike and run now. I never thought that would happen.

Welcome to the bycyling thread.

I would like to do paved trail riding. I don't want to commute to work or ride with traffic. Have to find some friends to ride with. Today I strictly ride in-doors and am thinking it'd be nice to get outside. I'll probably by a hybrid bike but I have just started looking.

Just got a Nike+iPod to try and get myself into walk/running. It's fun to add new activities to the mix.

Last summer, I was the only guy in the Water aerobics class at my community pool. I'm going to do that again this summer!

I just got DVR and have been watching Family Guy non-stop. I love South Park too. I swear they are the two most socially relivant show in the media.

South Park and Family Guy!! I LOVEEEE Family Guy the mostest though!

So... last night I was a freaking bottomless pit. I totally binged on crap like oreos, snickers, pretzels, and I ate 3 Boca chicken patties. WTF yo?

I felt 'full' like old fashioned-preband 'full' but it couldn't stop me like a good "OMG, I have lapband and if i eat another bite I will PB everywhere" will stop me. Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK. I'm calling for a fill. HOPEFULLY I can get in tomorrow!!!

Boo...

I can't get in until NEXT FLIPPIN MONDAY!

Maybe I should just steal some needles and saline from work and do it myself?? Haha. I only want 1/2 cc!!!

(FYI: I'd never do this. I'm still too fat to feel my port.)

That's funny as hell.

It's like stupid twice. But I'm going to cling to the Ohio Bycyling Babe for as long as I can tolerate it.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
