What's the deal with CAFFEINE ?!

Recommended Posts

Obviously everyone's tastes are different but I've got a Keurig, and I like a big cup of the darker roasts.....Barista Prima Italian Roast Decaf, Green Mountain coffee Dark Magic decaf, and Tully's French Roast extra bold decaf are what I've got right now. I like the Caribou blend decaf and Newman's own special blend decaf if I'm making a smaller cup. I just ordered a 30 pack variety of decaf K cups from Amazon, so I'll be taste testing some new ones shortly. Twinings makes a decaf chai Kcup, and celestial Seasonings has a Bengal Spice flavor tea bag that is decaf and tastes like chai when you add milk or Premier vanilla Protein. I also really like their Sleepytime vanilla tea bags. camomile tea at bedtime was a godsend in the beginning...it helped soothe my tummy at the end of the day and helped me sleep (I've always had a bit of insomnia)

I think decaf coffee gets a bad rep because there's usually only one option available at restaurants, gas stations, etc and it's not the best quality one...just whatever's cheap and convenient for management to be able to say "yes we have decaf". I seriously couldn't tell the difference between decaf and regular once you get into the higher quality versions.

Serious coffee addict here. I've got a coffee grinder, a french press, a keruig and a few other coffee makers. The better blends are better, but I can always tell Decaf.< /p>

HOWEVER

I was more than willing to give it up for a few weeks in order to have a better outcome.

I was told that caffeine stimulates the hunger hormone, dehydrates, and increases stomach acid. I am drinking a glass of iced Decaf with a little sugar-free Creamer right now. I am not missing caffeine and I used to drink gallons of it every day! Just the weight loss, Water, and Vitamins are increasing my energy level and I'm satisfied with that.

I'm not encouraging anyone to drink coffee or go against their doctors' orders but the "caffeine will dehydrate you" stuff is a myth . . . an old wives' tale . . . not supported by scientific evidence, etc.

I switched to Decaf tea as soon as I got my surgery date. it wasn't to bad and I didn't find I went thru withdrawl or anything.

I never drank coffee but would be lost without my tea.

On my days off I drink 32oz of decaf black tea with unflavored Protein in it with a some splenda and 2 tbsp. creamer. On the days I work I only do 24oz. I brew one decaf black tea k cup thru my kuerig twice. I also drink 24oz of decaf tea at night with my Miralax in it. (that has been a lifesaver)

I also drink plain Water to make up my 64-80oz of liquid I get in everyday. I am in AZ and when it was hotter out it was easier to drink more Water but with it being cooler in the mornings and evenings the hot tea just goes down easier and is way more enjoyable for me.

Oh and one other super positive with drinking hot tea for me is it helps my Vitamin go down so much better than just water. I have been able to swallow them since the doc put me on them but I'm not going to lie they are pretty big!!

So interesting.. My doctor hasn't mentioned anything about no caffeine, just no sodas.

Strong coffee with lots of cafine is a powerful hungery supressent for me. Great stuff. Cant get enough. Before surgery I could only drink 1 cup a day if I want to sleep at night. After surgery I can drink a cup just before bed and sleep great.

I had read that stuff about caffeine a while ago, long before surgery was even on the radar. However, I just figured I would follow the doctors advice so I could blame it on him if it didn't work! ;)

I believe it's the acid. I hear a little 1/2 caf is ok.

I had a cup of coffee by mistake. I ordered decaff but they gave me a regular. Oops! Since I had not had any for over 3 months, I was not able to tell right away. After about 3 or 4 small sips over the course of 20 minutes, I noticed I was getting a strong effect. It was like caffeine on steroids. I would say those 3 or 4 sips had the same effect as 2 cups of coffee. Wow! I was very awake. I think it was absorbed so quickly. If I were to drink coffee a couple sips would do the job. I won't anytime soon but perhaps a few years down the road.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
