"You took the easy way out"

they can't understand something they aren't going through. to them it seems like the easy way out because they don't know that we have to just up and change our eating habits and forcibly eat healthier and less. they think we can still eat all the bad stuff and lose weight like nothing. i for one, thought this surgery would be easier than it actually was. i had many complications and simply can't tolerate any food. i am 9 weeks out and live off of Protein Shakes which make me sick too. at the end of the day we know that this wasn't the easy way out, i believe it is harder. after going through all my complications i was wishing i could go back and eat healthier and control my portions, i just didn't have the knowledge i have today back then.

If it's the easy way out why are they so stupid and don't do the same? Dimwitted I suppose.

Cause they want accolades for doing it the "harder" way and being more successful than you.

About a month out!! It isn't easy at all..it does get better but lately been so sick. This is for the strong people

Hi, all. I was fearful of the same thing. That's why only 2 ppl know. My hubby and my best friend. I told no one else. Family, my children no one. I haven't I had surgery on 10 Dec, weighing in at 238. As of this morning I'm 221. I don't go back to work until 5 Jan. My excuse will and has been, is that I had my gallbladder removed and had to change my diet which true with the exception of the bypass part. It's a personal decision and everyone has a right to tell, or not. That's just me.

I have never had anyone tell me this but if they had gone through the surgery they would know that this is far from being easy and we did not make this choice without serious thought. When I hear people say this I think to myself what is easy about admitting that you need help. No one wants to ask for help of any kind, and admitting that you have a problem and having the courage to seek out help makes you a very smart person because for once in your life you are putting your needs before anyone else to be healthy and you do not have to apologize to anyone for that. Hold your head up high you deserve it.

I shut folks down by answering "why yes, yes I did take the easy way out"... followed by an eye roll. I have yet to have a rebuttal to that....lol. I owe no one an explanation... period.

I've had the same thing happen to me just when I've lost weight the old fashioned way. People say things like "wow, you've lost a ton of weight" without realizing they are really saying, 'wow, you were really really fat before". People who haven't had issues with their weight are quick to judge but screw them because they don't know what we've gone through.

I'm hesitant to let my friends and co workers know for just that reason, though. I've told my boss and managers that I will be having classes for the next six weeks and will have to leave early for those, that I will probably need about a week or so off at some point about the beginning of March, and then I'll have some appointments afterwards, too. With the hair loss about the 3rd month I anticipate that people will think the worst as I will hopefully have dropped quite a bit of weight by then and I don't even care if they think the worst. I told one friend of mine who has been struggling with weight loss and is much bigger than me and I thought she'd be excited for me. She told me that it was a horrible idea, she would not support me, and good luck with "that". I was flabbergasted that someone who should understand was so against it.

My best friend is much heavier than I am and has all kinds of co-morbidities and is against surgery because someone in her family died from complications of it so I'm just not going to tell her. She can think the worst or she can just believe me when I tell her that I made a lifestyle choice and that's that.

I think as we get our self confidence back once the weight loss begins that our happiness will easily move us past all of those negative Nellys out there...I hope so, at least.

I hate that people refer to it as the "easy way out" because it is definitely not easy NOR is it just an excuse or anything like that. I had to go through a 6 month required program before I could have surgery. I had to make the changes in my diet and eating habits to lose 10% of my weight before surgery. I made the commitment to make the life change. I had people around me telling me, "why can't you continue what you're doing and then you won't need surgery?" and it's just NOT that easy but no one understands unless they are going through what you're going through. I chose to block out the negativity and not let everyone know that I had the surgery because it's none of their business. This is the absolute hardest thing I have ever done and it's still a daily journey that we all have to embark on.

Easy way put. NOT!##### id like to know how u figure its easy way out.

1.Measure everything that goes in your mouth.

2. Be sure not to overeat, cause you will like crap.

3. Return doctor visits.

4. Read labels

5. Chew chew chew.

6.make sure you getting enough Protein.< /p>

i could go on and on.... But the point is...its ongoing for life hard but yes...well worth it.

I agree.It's best not to tell anyone People are so jealous and negative.I'm preop.I used to let people know.They were so negative, I stop saying anything.Its jealousy and

I will let no one stop me from getting healthy.

I read somewhere that people who suffer from morbid obesity and lose all their weight, only 10% can keep it off for good. Compare that to patients that have gastric bypass's surgery and the success rate goes up to 80% Weight loss success permanently. It's just simple, logical math.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
