You all know I was only kidding when I predicted that my "carb controlled" Breakfast would be pancakes and Syrup, right? Well the hospital didn't. They sent French toast, syrup, oatmeal and orange juice for my low carb breakfast.

Now that I'm home I can laugh about it, but I was pretty put out when my tray finally arrived. I was feeling less than charitable, so I made them take it away and bring me scrambled eggs. I'll bet they noticed how little of the prodigious pile they served me was eaten. I probably should have made it clearer that I only needed one egg, but I don't care. Don't mess with IcanMakeit.

I am so glad you are home and feeling better! I hope the results are what you want. I am going to schedule my reduction once I have maintained my weight for 1 year. I am interested to hear how everything goes for you.

I had my breast reduction on Monday and I am massively uncomfortable. But more worrisome than the pain is that I have been running a fever and one of my breasts is more swollen than the other. The surgeon was worried about a possible hematoma and decided to keep me for observation for a couple of extra days. The only good thing about that is that someone else has to deal with my drains. I'm afraid that when I strip the lines, it looks different from when the professionals do it.

If you ever have an extended stay in a hospital, be prepared to have to fight for healthy, low carb food. Even though I was on their "controlled carb" plan, they served me Pasta and angel food cake in one meal. Breakfast was quiche that was obviously made with flour in the filling.

My husband brought me my ipad today so I can finally catch up with my "peeps" on BariatricPal. I was having withdrawal symptoms!

whats your recovery time on reduction. .

whats your recovery time on reduction. .

Recovery time is very variable, but I went back to work after two weeks. It took 10 days for my drains to be removed. That was miserable. After a while they had started to hurt. Now that I'm about six weeks out, my incisions have mostly healed, but I still have unpleasant sensations, especially where they did the liposuction. My swelling (at the liposuction sites) has gone down a little, but my surgeon says it will take a couple more months before it's gone.

Most of the discomfort I feel at this point is caused by the liposuction, not the breast reduction.

When I had plastics. .. no drains for the breasts. They healed great and no visible scars.

Glad you are feeling good now! I didn't have liposuction but I have heard it is more painful than reconstructive plastic surgery!

Good luck on your recovery! I have dreamed since puberty of getting a breast reduction. I have two sisters, plus my mother, who all have normal to small sized breasts. Unlike me, I'm also the only one who is overweight. I keep waiting for the big reveal that I'm actually adopted to explain it, but no, just luck of the draw I guess.

No one who hasn't had to cart these puppies around for most of your life can ever understand the burden you bear. After I get my WLS, breast reduction will be first on the list for plastic surgery. I just want to know, finally what it feels like to have normal sized breasts. Between the grand Tetons and my weight, it has seriously messed up my self esteem.

Ironically my most successful weight loss attempt in the past was fueled by the desire that my insurance would pay for a breast reduction afterwards as I had chronic back pain and horrendous reoccurring rashes. Once I got down to 129 pounds all on my own, I immediately asked for a referral. And then, I was promptly turned down. I was devastated and it wasn't long after that before I had regained all the weight back plus more. This was about 15 years ago and it's been the yo-yo cycle ever since.

On another note, concerning the hospital meals, my mother was recently in the hospital for a week or so and they actually had a menu that you could call and request your own meals. There wasn't a huge range of choices but you could definitely work with it. First time I've ever seen anything like that.

Good luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
