Ready to Stop Crushing

Recommended Posts

I tried to think of a catchy title for this question but as you noticed, I failed miserably. :D

Does anyone have any advice on moving from crushing all my medicine to taking it whole (normally) again? Thanks. I'm 9 weeks out. For me, the worse part of this journey has been the awful taste of my medicines.

I am six weeks out and if the pill is small, (think no bigger than an Advil) or like its less than a tiny bite of soft food, I try taking it whole. So far so good. I am with you, crushing sucks the taste is hideous. Hope this helps.

My doc told me at my six weeks that I could have stopped crushing at 2 weeks but some how he neglected to tell me, so have you asked your doc, he may have forgotten.

I take my pills whole except for the chewable Vitamin but I don't have too. I was just too shocked at hurling a normal huge Vitamin into a newly created pouch but once I finish this bottle, I am moving on.

my doc has never suggested crushing the pills. i take the small ones whole, and i use a pill splitter to make the largers ones smaller. my worst pill has been potassium, which is huge. i just got liquid potassium. i take about 8 different drugs, plus Vitamins. it takes me a long time to take them. i take one at a time, while i used to take all my pills with one swallow, i now take them very slowly. with sips of Water in between each one. even though i am not crushing them, it is still the hardest part of my day.

I have been taking whole pills since the day I left the hospital! My surgeon doesn't believe it is necessary to crush or split pills.

I am three weeks out and I am crushing my pills as well and I hate it. Some of them make me gag, I take them with a small sip of Water and then chase that with a spoon full of applesause. I am definately going to ask my doctor if I can stop crushing my pills!!!

I asked about it at my 4 week appt and was told it was OK to stop crushing, except for any big honking horse pills. I am certain that they would not have told me this if I hadn't asked. I'd suggest calling your surgeon's office to clear it first, but you should be OK to stop crushing.

I to hate crushing one of my pills. I was told anything as small as a Tic Tac I could swallow whole. One I have to open up and take with apple sauce. Yuck!! I chase it with a little SF chocolate pudding.< /p>

Next Tuesday I get to take them all whole againe. Yipeee!

I never crushed either. I take some good-sized capsules every day, and I've been taking them since right after surgery.

Crushing pills is the only negative thing I can say about this whole process. My surgeon says to crush all meds for three months (I am 2 months post-op). I crush them, mix with some Crystal Light and drink it down just like a shot. :-).

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
