I had a Nuvasure ablation procedure to fix my excessive bleeding. It stops your periods completely or they are very light. I didn't have a period for 4 years except for a tiny spotting once in a while. Well, at one month post surgery I had a period. Hello, had to get stuff in a hurry and the day before thanksgiving at 5:00 PM has to be worst day to run to the grocery store to buy feminine products. There is something about this surgery and hormones. I was thinking the 38 lb weight loss may have done it. Not sure though?

I am seven weeks tomorrow and have been spotting daily, my surgeon says it's normal.

Same problem here! Seems like I am having a light period every week since I started really losing. Annoying since I have Mirena and haven't had a period for like 4 years.

There's plenty of documentation out there that supports an increase in fertility in women who lose weight- overweight women tend to be less fertile than those who are of average weight. (which is part of the reason we're so cautioned against pregnancy in the first couple of years after WLS- our bodies are going through enough as it is, plus the plumbing seems to get kick started;)) I've had the Mirena implant for years, and in just the 5 weeks since my RNY, have seen definite changes in my cycle- I'm attributing it to the weight loss.

I haven't had a period in over 11 years and had my first one last week. Its kinda weird after not having one in such a long time.

I have had 5 periods in the 6 weeks since my surgery. 4 of those were really heavy. My doctor wants me to go see my ob/gyn and see about an ablation since my tubes are already tied. Fingers crossed they will do it soon. I can't go on like this for much longer!

I have very heavy periods and sometimes 3 times a month for about 2 to 7 days each period. Not a pleasant experience. A couple years ago i had to get a blood transfusion because of the heavy blood loss. Does anyone have heavy periods? Does it get better after WLS?

I don't know from experience but I do know that once I gained weight my periods became more painful.

Weight affects your hormones a lot, as does it affect your core strength.

When I was thinner I used to workout and stretch during my periods to help them hurt less. Once I gained weight I became inactive and never wanted to workout much less on my period.

I bet your periods will change for the better. :)

Same thing here, my period was once a month prior to surgery and it's been twice a month since I've been losing weight after the bypass. It's not fun because who wants a period more frequently and it also causes scale confusion. ????

I would think hormones go through radical changes during extreme weight loss. I would wait to do anything drastic like ablation surgery until you have given your body some time to regulate itself. For instance after pregnancy, periods take some time to become normal again due to hormonal fluctuation. Our bodies just went through major surgery and ablation is also quite an intense surgery.

It takes time. Your body may have never even been thin before. It has to adjust. Rest and drink Water, focus on healing.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
