Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Today is the first day that I didn't go for a sustained walk (outside or on the treadmill). I started my period and I was in pain. I'm hoping this will pass soon so that I can get back to business.

For me, even prior to surgery, walking always seemed to help with period pains. I must say I'm really enjoying my daily treadmill workout. It feels like I'm walking away from obesity, one step at a time. :)

Goodmorning everyone, and It is a rainny morning on Long Island NY today! No outside walking for me thats for sure. I have my post op on Monday and I am excited to see where Im at. I can tell that my clothing is getting loose, and I am feeling much better these past few days. I have to really monitor how fast I eat or I am in pain, but it is like pavlovs dog....I am learning the lesson!!

Hi, I'm just checking in for the week. I've had family visiting all week, and my family is all about food. While I was strong sometimes, other times I gave in. I'm almost a month post-op, and don't get filled till next Friday, so I was able to eat pretty much anything, and I did. Only lost one pound this week. Well, that's better than gaining I guess, but still. . .

Thanks for the weather report Only4me. My son is visiting Long Island this week. I can relate to you in that the only time I am aware of the band is if I eat too fast. At this point, it's doing nothing to control hunger, which it seems that I am constantly feeling. But hopefully after the fill I will notice a difference. Is this Banster-Hell?

THAT SOUND DIVINE!!! I'VE VERY MUSCULAR LEGS ASWEL BUT I'M STILL HOPING FOR IT.

Hi Dini!

As you can see I am a fellow Irish woman(Cork) and am considering having the op with Jerome Manuceau in Adv Cosmetic Surgery. Its really new here and am wondering how you found it?any complications?was it professional?also the others are talking about"fills"but I dont see any reference to that in the blurb on his site.Do you have to go back for that-it only quotes "tightening"the ring.

I would be delighted if you would reply as its fantastic to have contact with someone who has had the experience.

IndioGirl, GOOD FOR YOU!!!! You held strong!!!! That is a huge NSV (non-scale victory). Just think before the band, I'm sure you would've joined in w/the rest of the group. Congrats!

Laurend, I am so jealous! I want my fill, too. Although you're not as restricted as you would like, I'm sure it helping w/some of the hunger, right?

SSanka & Frustrated, I've been walking, too. It is my favorite form of exercise. Keep up the good work!

Lindaa, yep. Welcome to Bandster Hell. No fun. Hungry, no restriction, can eat whatever you want, but no you shouldn't...I know. I can't wait until I get some restriction!!! And about giving in, don't beat yourself up. We're still learning and trying to break old habits. It's all good. Just brush yourself off and keep on trucking!

I got banded on the 26th June, i had a bit of of a rough time wit it but that was only cos i'm not great with anaesthesia and i never told them so i didn;t get the medication i should have. apart from that i got some should pain from the gas they out into you when you get it done via key hole surgery.

you were asking about the fill, the fill is when they put saline into the band to tighten it, untill you get to a spot that you've got the right amount of restriction. i've had 2 fill and i think i'm done now for a while cos i can not eat much

about ACS, i've nothing really against it except when i go to there office in dublin i'm aways left waiting ages, supose it like anything in dublin!!!!

if there is anythhing else you want to know call me or email.

MARCYINAK, i press on one of the other pages my accident like 40 or so pages back and i saw your tatoo. its so cool! where exactly is it on your body? can you believe i missed that i dont know how i did it. i read the pages b4 and after it and i had missed lots . i'm going to see about getting my girlfriend to let me book the time we go there, i'll try get it around the time your there cos after al that is around the time were going!

LYNETTE, the other night i sat at the computer and waited for a reply for 30 mins. it was telling me that you were writing but i didn't receive any messages. afterwards i said your probably tlaking to someone else so i said my good nights. Again another strange thing happening.

for everyone, hi how you guys doing? hope all is well with everyone. i hoe Sunny is shining brightly. question for all.

HAS ANYONE BEEN GETTING BRUISES??

i've got bruises on my arms back of my legs and my hip. i never get bruises so this is unusal for me ?? has anyone else been getting them?

i'm still very restricted, b4 i i Used to be able to eat 6 or 7 chicken wings with a bowl of chips or fries to you guys now i can only manage to eat one wing i tried eating another one and i knew i shouldn't have,,,,, next of all i am ill for 2 hours.

PLEASE DO NOT PUSH YOURSELF WITH food

IF YOU THINK YOUR FULL STOP EATING

NO MATTER HOW LITTLE IT IS.

Thanks Jackie! appreciate the feedback. it's kind of hard trying to keep up with everyone on this board, (I have 5 kids, doing school shopping, etc.) But I try to atleast read up every night or every other night. I haven't really told anybody about my surgery yet and it's great to atleast know that there are other people in the same boat! Is there anyone out there close to Panama City, Florida???? I need a treadmill buddy!! I have a friend who is an aerobics instructor/trainer, whose classes I usually take, but those are out for atleast another month. Treadmill is totally boring even with Ipod. I've been trying to go for walks with the kids, but the heat here is unbearable! If anyone is close to my area let me know, would love to meet up.

I'm glad everyone is doing good. :)

IndioGirl- congrats! That's so hard to do, sit there fore 2 hours and not eat, all those smells... super willpower!

Lindaa- welcome to bandter's hell! You should be happy you actually lost a pound around family. In my humble opinion that's also a major challenge.

Me, I am very happy because my belt moved a space! Yeah!

Someone asked "What's a warm day here"....please note that Alaska is BIG and one area's weather is completely different than another. Soooo that said, in Nome a warm day is 75-80...happened for about a week in June. Someone told me that August is the "nice" month, but I have yet to see nice! This is pretty typical weather for "northern Alaska". In Anchorage it gets warmer and the winters aren't that bad...reminds me of Idaho. Southeast Alaska gets a lot of rain and rarely snows...a lot like Washington/Puget Sound area.

Things are good today, although I'M HUNGRY! I'll just have to have a Protein Shake and "shake it off"! :-)

Dini - the tattoo is on my right thigh....high enough to not be seen with shorts and keep hidden, but easy enough to show people. I think it's the perfect spot...by the way, it's quite huge. My whole hand cannot cover it! It took HOURS, but I'm happy with it. That would be "Thuper Awethome" (as my 4-year old would say) to see you in Miami.

I'm off to Kindergym with the chitlins (my children) and don't anticipate talking more today...have a good one!

Living in "bandster hell" myself right now, just trying to get by each day until my 1st fill... I havn't gained any wgt which is a marvel in itself...I just keep telling myself that THIS will be my LAST fat summer... then it makes it easier to restrain myself.

Hang in there

Hi all. Just popped in really quick to tell you all hi. I have been really busy the last couple of days and haven't got a chance to post. I will catch up on all the posts tomorrow. As for today I just had to get in here and share my news with you all. Yesterday I broke into my 'I'm to fat for these' jeans from 3 years ago. I took out one pair of Tommy H that I totaly loved when I got them and only got to wear them a couple of times because it seemed like I went from one size to 2-3 sizes bigger over night. (I know it didn't happen over night but it happened quick) Anyway, they slid right on. NO PROBLEMS BUTTONING!!!!! I was soooooooooooo freakin happy and excited!!!!!! They are even comfy. Not to tight at all. A little saggy in the butt but that is ok. So this morning I thought 'I'm gonna try another pair of my jeans from that box that are the same size as the ones I wore yesterday. 18 BTW :) I was wearing 22. And guess what!!! THEY FITTTTTTTT!!! :whoo::whoo: I can not tell you how excited I am about this. I just had to come and share. Now I just need to go shopping and get some shirts and I am good to go until the next stage where I can dig into another box of 'I'm to fat to fit these'.

Gotta go shower. We are going out tonight with another couple. They want to me for drinks and I told them I couldn't drink because I had hernia surgery, which is NOT a lie only part of the story, so I volunteered to be the DD. I figure if they decide to get something to eat I will be good because I have eaten some of Lynette's WONDERFUL chicken salad just a few minutes ago for supper so I should be good. I always order ice Water with a slice of Lemon when we are out so no one will question me on that either. I AM LOVIN THE BANDED LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take care everyone and hope all is well for you all in bandland as well. I miss you all. I will catch up with you all this weekend.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
