Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

I have just started a new thread with this questions and thought I would ask you all as well.

My dr. took 2 pictures of my insides during surgery- one of the liver and one of the band in place and gave them to me as a souvenir. She said she does that to all her patients. Did anybody else's dr. do this?

Cazulay, how nice is that. I got no pics, didn't even have th uppe gi after to see the band, as I'm sitting here wondering if I even have one.

Marcy, you and your seafood. Darn, you are so lucky, and at prices like that, you need to start a shipping business and get some to your Lucky 7 friends,LOL!!!!

Chim, I think we're going to hold off on the cruise until January, and maybe poll everyone again. It was a tie, but maybe more people will join us then and we'll go from there.

Dini, where are you? What happened to you last night???

Sunny, sorry about your computer problems. I do think mine had a virus, but don't know how?????? Hopefully the new software installed will be taking care of it.

I'm 9 days out from my fill, and I don't know what I was doing wrong, but I've been hungry. Unless I'm burning all my food at work, I don't know why I've been hungry just 2 hours after eating. Today I stepped up my Protein, a lot, like I put a scoop and a half of powder in my shake, and that was at 7am. I had to make myself eat 3 1/2 hours later at 10:30am, so I had 4ozs of eggs, with a slice of cheese, and 3 pieces of turkey bacon. Again, I had to make myself eat 4 hours later, and had an ounce of cheese and tablespoon of peanutbutter. Whatever I figured out today worked so well, my stomache hasn't growled once. I think the Protein is the key to this band.

Hey Lynette! I think you're right about the Protein. When I eat meals w/higher Protein content, I find that I'm not as hungry as soon. I can't wait until I get some restriction, though. I know I can eat more than I am, but I'm holding strong. It's just rough when the hunger (real hunger) keeps coming back.

Caz, no pics here. I did get to see my band in x-ray, though the morning after surgery. It would be neat, though to have them.

Marcy, I LOVE seafood. Here in MD, it is everywhere! My first mushy meal was a crabcake (at least a 1/4 of it). So good.

Hello all, I was banded on 7/17/07. I have had absolutely no complications! My recovery was quite rapid, the only thing that was really uncomfortable was the soreness from the hernia repair that the docs did while inside my belly. I have lost 20 lbs. in 3 weeks, which is totally wonderful to me. My only concern is that I keep reading about everybody not being able to eat certain things, well not being able to eat hardly anything! I am about 4 weeks out and my doc has me eating a pretty normal diet. I can eat pretty much anything as long as it is well tolerated and I chew well. I can eat 1-2 cups of food before feeling full. My doc used a 10cc band. Do you guys think this is normal, is it because he used a bigger band? He says that after my first fill, it will be completely different and the reason why I can eat so well now is because I have no restriction. But my recovery being so different from everyone elses makes me uncertain. Don't get me wrong, I love not having any time of real difficulty, but it makes me worry that maybe this isn't working the way that it's supposed to. He also doesn't want me to go back to aerobics until 2 months has passed??? I guess it's so I'm not jostling things around, but I hate just getting on the treadmill or the elliptical! Well enough of my whining, please let me know what you guys think and how your doc is doing things.

:cry

Welcome to our group!!!! It sounds like you are doing just fine! All of these doctors appear to be different! So if you are following your doctor's instructions, you really shouldn't have any problems! I can eat pretty much right now too, but I try not to, because I don't want to do any harm to the band or my "little" stomach, lol!!!! Best of luck with it all! Seems like you are on the right track!!!:whoo:

dmjet - It's not hot EVERYWHERE! LOL! It's about 55 here, good enough for a brisk walk and chicken yard cleaning!grin.gif

Marcy, think I will take the heat! I am a warm weather girl, love to get in the pool and soak and all! However, I could do without the tornadoes that were touching down around here all day today, not hitting us, but right where my oldest daughter works. Everyone is okay, but sure scares the Kahunas out of ya'!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They claim some more strong storms will be moving through shortly, so won't be on long! Getting awfully dark here again as we speak! This will be the 3rd biggie today!!!!!:)

Hello, everyone! Hope all is well with each of you! :)

Cazulay, no pics here!!! Think it would be cool though! I am like Chim, I got to see it on the x-ray while doing the barium swallow! That was cool, but otherwise, zippo!!!! LOL:p

Danny, enjoy Gram's birthday! Grandparents are sooo special! Have a terrific vacation also and enjoy those pickles!!!!! LOL:)

dmtjet - my sister once moved to N. Carolina to be with her military husband...she lasted 7 months! She said she liked living somewhere where there weren't any crazy ugly spiders and no natural disasters...yeah, Alaska has earthquakes all the time, big deal....I can't imagine what a tornado would do to the citizens of our state...it would be a mess!

:omg:NO ONE IS HERE????:omg: - Has the newness worn off... Since most of us are feeling better are we now living our lives and not stuck on the computer 24/7....

Well I went to happy hour with some people from work - had one glass of wine - while everyone else had a couple and then ate cheese burgers, french fries lobster quesdia's (sp) dinner rolls, salads - I nursed a glass of wine for 2 hours along with my Water. I will admit i did eat one french fry... I know i could have eaten something but it was all high calorie food on the menu - so i just came home to my fish & veggie. I want to lose weight.... II don't want to lose my motivation - cuz it's so hard to get it back once it's lost...

Indiogirl, We are very proud of you too! You used real willpower! I am sure it was tough, but it has to be a good feeling to know you accomplished it!!! Yeah, for you!

Marcy, I didn't realize there were earthquakes in Alaska!!! Gee, seems we all get something! We hadn't had tornadoes in several years, but they made up for lost time this past few weeks!!!! What is a warm day where you are??? And I assume you raise chickens!!! Too cool! Sounds like you have quite the busy life!

only4me, sorry you are soooo tired! Be sure to get your rest!

I'm back from my first fill! It was scheduled for Wednesday, but when I got to the surgeon's office, they said she had had a family emergency and that they were supposed to have called me that morning to cancel my appointment. They rescheduled my fill for this morning, so it was a good thing that my brother's inlaws like me and that they let me stay an extra night with them! (I drove to Memphis on Tuesday and stayed that night. I had planned to drive back on Wednesday, but that obviously didn't happen.) Anyway, she put 1.4 ccs in my band today. I will probably be going back next week for a second fill, since I am still a little looser than I want to be.

LaNalga.

I feel like I'm having the same type of recovery as you. No problems with tolerating any liquids (nor the couple of solids that tempted me either). I'm only 11 days post op. I haven't called my Dr. either because thankfully, I didn't have a need to. I am supposed to be on whole liquids for 2 weeks (3 days to go until mushies!!!) and then on to another 2 weeks of mushies then solid food after that.

Today is the first day that I didn't go for a sustained walk (outside or on the treadmill). I started my period and I was in pain. I'm hoping this will pass soon so that I can get back to business.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
