Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

:)Thank you Sunshine for doing the research. It's good to know.

I also love to research things, sometimes I spend too much time. It's just so easy these days with the internet. I can spend hours researching something new I discover.

Well all, I still have my cold but it seems to be changing so I figure it is going to go through it's stages. If the saying about colds 3 days coming, 3 days with and 3 to go is at all true...I am at day 2 of sick. This would mean by my pre-op on Monday (surgery Tuesday) I would be at day 3 to go. I am doing it all to try to get better before Monday. Emer'gen-C drinks, Cold-Eze Lozenges, Zicam, Plenty of fluids!!! And:notagree

Welcome purplegirl. We will all want to mother you...

Lynette, the consensus on the 25 gm Protein was that research did NOT support that statement. There was not a limit. Just that, as with all food, if you take in more that you use (calories in, calories out) you will store it as fat. The other negative to too much protein is that it can have an effect on your kidneys longterm (I am talking about really overdoing it). So don't worry about the high protein supplements.< /p>

BreadLady, it is so just like me to get sick before surgery. I hope you are getting better. The good thing about a cold is that it does run its course. Those zinc cold supplements actually do help some. The time is getting closer. I am so excited for you.

Dini, do you have Carnation Instant Breakfast or its equivalent in Ireland. That is what my md recommends post op. You can even order it off the Carnation websit. Just a thought. If you a a serving of powdered milk to the cup of skim milk you mix it with, it tastes richer and has 21 gm protein. I should have a date in the next week or 2. They were sending my information in to the insurance this week.

My cousin had this surgery May 4, 2007 and she has lost 26lbs. I can't wait!!!!

Dini, good luck in your searches. We also have health drinks called Boost, or Ensure that are also recommended. I was going to say FTD also for the flowers, but Chimboree already told you. They seem to be the most popular I can think of over here. That would be awesome to meet next year on our Bandiversary!! We can use the money we save on food over the next year to pay for the trip!!!

Breadlady, hang in there. Get some chicken noodle Soup, and the liquids will flush it right out. I wonder if you could take Tylenol Cold meds. since Tylenol is ok with the band? And the sleep is probably the best thing you can get, so don't run yourself all weekend. Hopefully you have everything ready for post op. If not, maybe a family member or friend could help with the shopping.

Sunshine, I would think that all the Protein they eat on the Atkins would shoot the cholesterol (sp) up too, but for some reaon I don't think it does. I know it's bad on the kidneys because of the ketosis (sp) that happens.

Anyway, I'm sticking with my body fortress powder. It has 23 grams per scoop. I was getting worried because if I added it to something that had over 2 grams already I'd be at 25, or over. I think I'll be ok with it. I plan to be excercising, at least walking right away.

Wow, so much to think about still. Just when you think you've done all your research, other things come up to think about. That's what I love about this site. I'm always learning from all of you.

Dini - No problem. I just love helping out.

Purplegirl - Welcome! Wow. You are getting a jump on this. Good for you!

ALL - Hope everyone is doing well. Stay encouraged. ;)

Ok...we know that we're all going to do extremely well w/the Band, thus, our appearances will be changing.

How are you planning on responding to the questions? Will you be open about the Band? Will you be vague?

I saw somewhere else on the site a response that I loved. When asked, one woman said (in essence) , "I've decided to take control of my health and habits."

Isn't that great???? It says it all w/o getting too personal. Not that I'm ashamed to have WLS, but for me, I feel like this surgery is s'thing personal (like any other surgery I've had) and I will share only if I feel it necessary.

Let me know your thoughts.

I dunno about what I'll actually say. Usually I say TOO much! LOL! I don't have a problem with people knowing...maybe I'll use THAT as a tool too? If people know I shouldn't be eating all the time and certain amounts then I won't...you know, peer pressure...it's all good. If it's working, why not advertise? You'd talk about a gym class you like or a treadmill that you like (I love my Treadclimber by the way) so why not talk about a MEDICAL tool that you use? Just a thought.

It's good to have all sorts of knew folks join in on the fun! I've met some more people who have had WLS here in Nome so I'm glad to actually have FACES to talk to, if needed.

Dini - I found this post on the site as I was browsing around. I hope this helps with the shakes.< /p>

Hi Allure & Brenners - yeah I think I'm in the "before and after" picture thread - it's more of a before and during, in my case - studies show that most people will lose 50-65% of their EXCESS weight with the band, and that is exactly what I did - and what most people I have met, three years out have done...

Brenners: you can get great shakes at "The Health food Store" in the Blanchardstown Centre or Nurture in Wicklow St (in Dublin city) - I used them a lot, they are either in a big tub for about 32 euro or in sachets for about 2.50 - they are called Spiru-tein and taste yum! You should buy a few sachets to see which flavours you like. I buy bags of frozen berries (in M&S or Aldi) and make a smoothie using the Protein Powder, skim milk and fruit. Another great breakfast smoothie is Orange juice, a banana and a dessert spoon of Peanut Butter. Make sure you get lots of Protein in during the first few months - I lost a LOT of hair plus it really gives you the energy to go to the gym!

best of luck to you all on your band journeys - make sure to get lots of support - check in here often, even on bad days...it can be a lonely process dealing with this on your own. And despite family and friends being supportive, it's not the same as talking to someone else who has lost or needs to lose ten stone!

If you want to email me directly, send me a pm and I'll be happy to offer support and "where I went wrong" tips!

Again best of luck xx

:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

If someone asks about my weight loss, I'll tell them about the surgery. After all, you never know if knowing about the surgery could help someone else. Personally, I think that not telling them about the surgery if I was asked what I did seems to further the idea that we should be ashamed of taking "the easy way out." I wouldn't volunteer the information unless I was asked about what I did, but I'll tell anyone who asks.

BreadLady I am so embarrased! that is the only other forum i visit.I even know the people thread cos we meet up on Saturday and worst of all the Shopping Center they talk about is at the end of my road !!!!

I had a dream last night that I could not pick up or play with my daughter Annafrancesca (14 months ). I have to admit that today its playing on my mind how long it will be before I'll be able to run around after her. I think i'm going to have to employ a childminder for a week. Anyone else worried about how there going to manage there children?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
