Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the welcome. This site is so awesome. I have learned so much just reading all of the different threads. I am encouraged also to see that many people have lost large amounts of weight. I have way more than 150 lbs. to lose and it is scary, but having read about so many people here I know it is posible and I am going to do it! I hope to visit with lots of you often here. Good Luck to you all. I also want to have a "Great year in 2008!" Patti C

Hello all,

I just found this thread. My date is set for 7/10 though I had hoped it would be sooner. When I first met with the doctor she said she thought she would be able to do it mid-June but it sure is looking like July. So I decided to post to help me come to terms with the fact that it is probably July.

Glad there is a group for July people.

Thanks for starting the thread Evilah

Just had my phone consult with my doctor yesterday. Things went well and he explained things I already knew (a good sign that I'm MENTALLY prepared!). I was thinking last week how weird it is that I'm flying into Denver on Monday having pre-op appt. and surgery then flying back to Alaska on Thursday night...kind of a stop and go thing. Then yesterday I realized that when I had my gallbladder out several years ago, when I lived in the same city as the surgeon, that I didn't see him any more often and didn't call him either...so I guess it isn't that weird afterall!

Good news though! My sister, who is coming with me, just said that we'd been invited to stay at her friend's house! That saves me several hundred dollars! (And I was already staying at the "cheap" hotel!) This is a big deal for a self-pay gal!

Things are looking up...now on to my last meals....

Don't you just love LBT? It certainly does help us in our preparation for pre-op/post-op and then some! I feel extremely confident about this surgery and about what to expect.

Good for you that you don't have to stay in the hotel! As we know, hotels aren't cheap (even the "cheap" ones).

And as for the last meals, I am soooo trying to not have the Last Supper mentality. I keep telling myself to not go overboard b/c that will be just more weight I have to take off once I'm banded.

I have tried to post this 3 times. This is my last shot. Sorry if there are typos each time I try to spell check it, it just disappears. :)

I am so in the last supper mentality. When I go out I am not denying myself. It's bad. But my doc said I didn't have to lose b4 surgery just not gain. So I keep hopping on the scale to make sure it is still on track.

Am I the only crazy person feeling this way? It doesn't really bother me because there is obviously some control to it because I am not gaining. Unless of course I wake up one day and the scale says I gained ten then I will be bummin'

:hungry:Thanks for listening. :hungry:

I am so jealous that your date is coming up so soon...I have 49 more days to go (but who's counting???:guess ).

Certainly keep us up-to-date.

Well, I had my endoscopy and gall bladder scan today. I won't know the results of the gall bladder test til I see the doctor but he said everything was fine with then endo. I do not have a hiatal hernia like I thought I did. Everything went great. I don't remember a thing. They said are you ready and next thing I know I am waking up and my daughter is sitting there with me in recovery. All that worry for nothing.

I have not told my family because I was concerned about negativity. I told my daughter today. She asked some questions and said "Go for it!". That was so nice. I just brought it up since sometimes we project onto others what we think they might think or say. I underestimated my lovely, supportive daughter. My son is next. Wish me luck.

I meet Saturday with the dr for extensive discussion and education for me and my daughter who is going with me. Monday is my pulmonology visit and then its just waiting for insurance approval. I am getting there...:clap2:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
