Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

I spoke with my Dr. about Aleve several months ago as it is my favorite pain killer for my back (I have scoliosis which is further aggravated by rheumatoid arthritis and let's face it, FAT). Anyway, he said no to Aleve because it can cause the lining of the pouch to thin. He said if I must have it, then I had to first crush it in applesauce and also take a daily prescription of preventive acid reflux meds. He strongly urged trying to get by on liquid tylenol. After losing 20 lbs the constant back pain has all but disappeared. It does make a cameo appearance now and then but I can usually suffer through it without any medication. It's amazing what 20 lbs can do.

It is amazing isn't it? I just told Jackie that if I still had all that fat around I probably wouldn't be near as sore...everything would have been padded.

I will stay away from the Aleve. Not my pain reliever of choice. Usually stick with tylenol. Just wondering what to do in a pinch, like if whoever I asked didn't have any but had advil. Usually have my own, but obviously I've used it and my ds has been using it too for basketball aches and pains.

You're going to feel better and better Donna. You'll be really amazed what 30, 40, and 50 pounds change. Your face will even begin to glow!

Okay I am back. And life has been HELL for the last several days. I know that no one is really around but I need to vent to someone other than my DH who has been through the wringer too. I am going to go back to Sunday and work my way forward to show you my week.

Sunday - Ran 10 miles and my Nike+ refuses to sync to my account now. I had to get a new sensor because apparently storing it in your running bra will break your ipod and your sensor. I had to buy an ipod about a month ago and now had to finally break down and get a new sensor. Not too badk 29$. But it would NOT sync. Then I went outside and checked the mail that we had neglected to do for a couple of days. INside were all of our utility bills...$688 dollars worth. Our rent is only 695$ So paying that much for utilities sent my DH through the roof and me to tears. It wouldn't be bad if we were keeping the house at 80...but we couldn't get it above 65 degrees. I was freezing constantly and we were spending more time driving around and eating out so that we could be warm somewhere. So DH decides we are moving. I try to argue against it but after crunching the numbers... it made sense to move, AGAIN. The worst part is that we know that we will be moving again in 6 months.

Monday - Found a cute (tiny) place to live and put our application in on it. Spent ALL day looking for a place. Went to the gym and put in a half hearted workout but sensor still not syncing.

Tuesday - Got approved for the apt, put down deposit and moved in. Not all the furniture just some cooking stuff, food, and sleeping bags. We finally got to sleep in a warm room for the first time since we came back from Vegas! Started feeling kind of icky. Tummy ache, headache, and just plain achy. Chalked it up to stress and moving.

Wednesday - 2:45AM Started throwing up. Now remember, I was never able to get my unfill so I am tight and throwing up. NEVER a good thing. Just didn't realize HOW bad. Threw up a couple of times. Went to work to do sub plans came home and kept throwing up. Called the doctor and he demanded that I come over for an unfill. At this point my stomach HURTS and not flu hurt so I call the school, call in sick for the rest of the week, throw together sub plans and head across the mountains for my 6 hour drive. Fortunately (the only good thing this week) the mountains were clear and NO weather problems. Stayed at my brothers house for the night since I had stopped throwing up.

Thursday - Got to the doc at 9AM and had a complete unfill. Fluoro shows MAJOR inflamation and SERIOUS swelling. Concerned that my pouch is starting to dialate (which can lead to slippage) they put my back on post op diet...2 weeks liquids, 2 weeks mushies and then back to real food. Drive home feeling sorry for myself!

Friday - Cook some Soups that I can eat and then when DH gets off work move some more stuff over to the apt. Still feel Crappy. Had a phone interview with a vice principal in Las Vegas. Looks good!!!

Saturday - Got a uhaul and moved all of our stuff, got cable and internet hooked up. And still feel crappy! Finally I broke down and took a nap. Feel a little better but my tummy is still sore. No throwing up, but being totally unfilled I do not feel hungry at all. That should tell you how swollen I am.

So I learned my lesson...never stay too tight cause even if you are careful and don't pb often if you get the flu...it can cause MAJOR problems.

Well I am going to go to the store to get more pinto Beans to make more Soup. I did get one of those immersion blenders so I will be blending everything and watering it down for the next couple weeks.

My G-d, Karrie!! Are you sure you're still alive? It sounds like you're in need of some real TLC!

....And that utility bill is unreal! There is something to be said for heating with home-grown firewood.

Please, please, please take care of yourself! I've had an overly tight band and although it was the pits, I milkshaked through it until I got back to the states and got it adjusted. Be gentle with yourself. You deserve it!!:cursing:

Steph- I still have about 2ozs of liquid pain meds from my breast reduction. Too bad you're not close. Do you have any nerve pills. That will knock you out, and at least you can sleep.< /span>

Donna- My friend is in Kingwood. How close are you? We may go this summer. Haven't been since I lived in her driveway for a week for Katrina.

night ladies. just wanted to check in. I'm so sore. every time I sit for more than 10 minutes I want to cry when I get up. Jeff said I moaned and groaned in my sleep all night last night.

had a decent day. all my liquid in. good food choices. No exercise though. Would have proably done me good but couldn't bring myself to do it.

Tomorrow will be another busy day. Mom is kicking my butt to get my house cleaned.

Okay, gotta run. It's late.

Steph, while you're cleaning yours could I convince you to do a once-over-quickly on mine. It's such a wreck! And 3 dogs' worth of fur doesn't help much.

How is the body feeling? IB seems to work best when I need a pain killer and is also an anti-inflammatory. Watch the stomach, though. I once had to do 7 in order to walk off of a bird field. Worked great. Rx strength is 5.

So you ladies tore up LV??!? Well, I never....

I should be moving July or August at the latest...though that isn't the best time to visit cause its HOT HOT HOT. Though for Janet it will be normal!

I am doing better though the liquid diet is wreaking havoc with my system. 6-10 pound weight fluctuations due to Water retention (I think I have had too much salt trying to spice up my diet!) and I have the FARTS! I know...pretty picture...though it is better to picture it than smell it:yikes:

Work is alright. It is grading week this week and on top of that I am dealing with my student teacher who I cant stand.:( I am really REALLY protective of my kiddos (even when they piss me off) and am just a BIT of a control freak (not much...really...i don't have control issues at all:sneaky:) so when he doesn't do it the way that I do it kind of bugs me.

Well I am going to go blend my chili. I think the bathroom issues are coming from all the Beans I am eating! At least I am getting Protein and Fiber.< /p>

While I wasn't a huge fan of Houston when I first moved here 7 years ago, it's grown me. Everything is available here, cost of living is amongst the best and the economy hasn't been as detrimental here as in other parts of the country. I say c'mon down!

Wow!! All quiet on the western front!

It's DH's 60th tomorrow and I'm not allowed to Celebrate it. Unfortunately, he doesn't remember to celebrate my birthday either. From a strange family. Oh well, my son, who was born the day after my birthday, and I celebrate each other's. DH will get excited about getting DS a great gift, but totally blows mine off. What would Freud say?

Better get back to monitoring the systems.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
