Does anyone here eat LCHF? How are you doing on it? All of my literature about post-op eating stresses low fat, but I've read a lot about how the lchf way of eating keeps your body in ketosis and, therefore, burning more fat.

I do the Low Carb High Fat, (LCHF), BUT my bad cholesterol was elevated in my most recent fasting lab work at my primary care doctor's office. I find the LCHF helps me lose weight BUT I may have a genetic predisposition to higher cholesterol. I'm going to cut the fat out and still do low carb and see what my next lab work shows. She didn't put me on statins because my "good cholesterol" was so high and my blood sugars were excellent. My liver and kidney function were great too.

I REALLY don't ever want to take statins. I've done very little research and some people claim they are poisonous. I just don't want to go on ANY MORE MEDICATION. I had this surgery to become healthy and I would rather do it through diet, exercise and behavior modification and not chemicals which may have an impact on my liver.

I don't focus necessarily on low carb. Instead I look for complex carbs such as those you get from veg or whole grains. I stay away from breads, white potatoes, white rice and Pasta. Same thing with fats. I look for healthy fats such as avocados, coconut oil, and olive oil. I also avoid heavily processed food and fake sugars. Meanwhile I still focus on getting in my Protein and drinking Water.< /p>

My doc emphasizes lean Protein, lots of fluids, and keeping carbs as low as possible. Seems to be working...

I've been told the same things. Low Carbs and lean Protein. I've also been told to stay away from starches or keep them to a bare minimum.

It really sounds like the PALEO diet to me.

My NUT also promotes Low Carbs ( Complex) and Low Fat. She said during the beginning stages Post op Low Fat is better for the Liver and organs.

I did Atkins (LCHF) and lost great on it but always gained it back plus some when I went off. But it sure was fun losing weight while eating scrambled eggs fried in bacon grease!!! Lol

I guess follow what works for your and your NUT n Doc recommend ????

I'm doing LCHF. I credit eating coconut oil fat bombs right before bed with breaking my stall.

I follow Atkins. sugar free, low carb, regular, full fat food and drinks, high Protein.

I learned from Atkins that often when a food is made low/no fat, they replace the fat with sugar to make it taste good. Compare labels and see. Sugar is my trigger, I must avoid.

I've never heard of the diet you describe so I am about to google, lol.

By "fats" I don't mean bacon. I mean Salad Dressing, cheese, cottage cheese, beef, half and half, olive oil, butter, almonds. Of course with the sleeve I can't eat much and Proteins are first. I do on occasion have carbs from some Pasta, or a small potato (kind of makes me feel yucky) and I will eat a little bread from Subway from time to time. It is working for me.

I just eat as clean as possible. no artificial colorings, flavorings, or highly processed foods. I look for minimal ingredients and I avoid buying products with too many ingredients or ingredients I need a PhD to understand. I avoid simple, white carbs, but I will eat complex carbs. I eat healthy fats like coconut oil & avocado and I make sure my sugars come from natural sources. I don't buy any diet foods. Nothing that says, "low fat, sugar free or lite". I cook from scratch as much as possible.

I do LCHF. About 50% of my calories come from far, 25% each from carbs and Protein and I try to keep carbs under 70 gms since I'm in maintenance. While losing, I kept them under 42 gms. I love it. It keeps me very full and my blood work has been great over the last 15 months since surgery.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
