HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THEIR SLEEVE BEING STRETCHED?

Recommended Posts

I'VE ALWAYS HEARD THAT PEOPLE CAN STRETCH THEIR SLEEVE OVER TIME IF THEY CONTINUE TO OVER EAT ETC. I CONSIDER MYSELF AN OVER-EATER, NOT A food ADDICT AS MOST PEOPLE DESCRIBE THEMSELVES. I WAS JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS ACTUALLY DONE THIS. I PLAN TO BE DILIGENT IN MEASURING, WEIGHING MY FOOD TO KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING.

The only thing I've seen posted has been comments about the Sleeve relaxing & you can hold a little more food. I try very hard to not overeat because I don't want to stretch my stomach either. Good luck with your sleeve. I'm glad I did this. No regrets.

I think you'll probably get different answers to this question, much like is caffeine ok, is alcohol ok, etc. I think your responses will be varied. I can only speak from my experience. I do think that as my sleeve has "healed" and the internal swelling has gone down, etc there probably is a little less restriction than there was initially.

With that being said, the kind of food you are eating matters. If you are eating foods that are high in carbs, they tend to slide pretty easily through, not fill you up, and give you the sensation that you your sleeve is "broken" or "stretched" and you can suddenly eat more. However, if you go back to dense Proteins you'll realize pretty quickly that your tool is still in tact and you still have the restriction that you expect to have.

So, is it possible to stretch your sleeve? I'm not terribly sure. Is it possible to over-eat or binge eat with the sleeve and have the feeling that it is stretched? Absolutely.

So that was kind of a long response to a short question. And my official answer, I don't know. Lol.

You just described me perfectly. I am an over-eater, not a food addict. I don't have a soda addiction, or feel like I will panic if I cannot eat certain foods. I over eat when I am bored, lonely, angry, happy, etc. my hope is the sleeve will help keep me from over eating.

According to webmd "If you continually overeat, the stomach may stretch. If your stomach stretches, you will not benefit from your surgery." http://www.webmd.com/diet/weight-loss-surgery/restrictive-operations-stomach-stapling-or-gastric-banding

Hope this answers your question.

I'm 4 weeks post op, and I act asked this question at my last meeting on Monday, according to the dietitian and surgeon speaking...

"If you over eat and ignore the sleeve full sensation over a period of time your sleeve will definitely stretch"

i believe it can stretch. i am 19 wks out from surgery. i can eat WAY more right now than i could just 6 wks ago. i have noticed that some days, i DO eat more. i have had to commit to measuring everything and getting back to my small serving bowls to contain my eating habits.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
