Wow! Our stories are really similar and I can totally relate. I also wish I would of had my surgery sooner. So far, it has been the best decision I have made. I was a vegetarian in my 30's and early 40's but transitioned back into eating meat and fish. Now, since surgery, I no longer eat red meat and will probably go back to vegetarianism once I plateau. One meat at a time!

Best of luck!

I never liked red meat except for junk food like cheese-steaks and hamburger. I tried vegetarianism as a teen but went back to eating chicken and seafood in my 20's. Then I developed a seafood allergy. Looking back I think I always had an intolerance, but it became lethal in my late 20/early 30's. When I gave up seafood I went back to vegetarianism. Unfortunately I was more of a junk-a--tarian than anything else. I ate too many white, processed carbs and junk food instead of focusing on whole, healthy plant based foods. About 5 or 6 years ago my allergies got progressively worse. I was feeling worse and worse and gaining weight at a crazy rate. I started reading up and adjusting my diet. I've improved my eating habits and have no desire to ever eat meat again. Seafood is not an option since I am now anaphylaxis levels allergic. There are even days when I think about adopting a vegan diet.

For now I am firmly vegetarian and plan to stay that way.

Junk-a-tarian! I like that word. That would of described my diet to a T. Veggies pizza and veggie burritos don't exactly scream healthy. Just because I wasn't eating meat didn't mean I was eating healthy.

Vegan - I tried it for about a month back in the day but it was just too hard for me.

I only eat cheese, yogurt and eggs that are non-vegan now. There are some alternatives I want to explore but since I need the Protein right now it's on hold. Once I am able to fully explore eating as a vegan, I'll make my decision.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
