Food Cost savings after banding

Recommended Posts

Just curious how much do you spend on food post surgery? I imagine the cost savings would be significant but just curious on what you spend now

i dont know..hadnt thought about that aspect of it.

now that i dont eat out hardly (except on fridays)

i tend to shop more for clothes and also spend more $ on

better quality foods (tbone steak, 96% beef patties, chicken breast)

so it could be the same or even more some times.

No idea how to figure it out now but I save a lot. I rarely find myself in the grocery store and used to go nearly daily. The fast food alone is a huge savings. One restaurant meal is often two meals now since I take half home.

Like she said....don't know dollar amount, but don't grocery shop anywhere near what we used to do....

I only have one "Full" meal a day, and then it's not much.....I can easily stop and get Chinese take out and that can last me 2 days...

We have not been in a costco in ages......

I can actually answer this because my husband and I have been tracking it.

Pre-op we'd spend close to $300/week at the grocery store for a family of 3. Then we'd spend close to $100/week eating out.

Post op, I'm spending closer to $150 - $200 on groceries, my son and husband are eating more leftovers, and *if* we go out to eat, we are spending closer to $50.

So yes. The savings is significant. However. I'm spending that savings on undergarments, sweaters, and tights. I'm avoiding purchasing pants at the moment because my size is changing often enough that I'm sticking to winterizing my dresses. Dresses are easier to alter than pants are.

Does this help?

Definitely don't eat out as much, nor do we order anything that we can't make three or four meals out of. Our local family restaurant has specials, and every few weeks they'll have stuffed peppers--two huge ones on a plate! I make an easy four meals out them! But, I was never high maintenance as far as needing expensive steaks or other red meats.

One thing that can add to costs is Protein supplements, especially Protein Bars. I like Quest bars, but they are pricey and eating or a two a day can add up quickly!

Absolutely I'm glad to get everyone's input :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
