Protein Struggles, liquid phase

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm 7 days post op and still on the liquid phase but I'm struggling to get to my daily minimum Protein intake of 65G. Any suggestions?

I'm back on having 2 Protein shakes a day, and a Soup for lunch but still not at 65G.

Thanks.

During my liquid phase I was on nectar Protein powder (~25g per scoop) and 1% milk. I also supplemented with PROTI brand broth and Water add-ins which each are infused with 15g of Protein.

My surgeon's office sold both, but you can find them online or at super supplement stores.

I had no Protein goals during my post-op phase. To me the whole notion of trying to get something in or get something down feels counter-intuitive to the whole process of learning to listen to the body and give it what it needs. Of course you need to follow your doctor's instructions but maybe you should call and tell them you are having difficulty -- they may say not to force anything, not to worry so much. Meanwhile congratulations on your surgery and welcome to the other side. It's an exciting time.

I was given no Protein goals at all. I am currently day 4, I was banded on Monday. On mine there is 2 Protein shakes a day 15-25g and I have been drinking Atkins (which are delicious) and 15g each. I am SO sick of this shakes and Soup diet already it's not funny.

Thank you all for your suggestions, I really appreciate it.

I have an appointment with my doctor on Tuesday, I'll mention it then. I'm actually on the mashed food this week, I can't even go near the Protein shakes anymore, let alone have a couple of them a day. I've started having other things to compensate, but I'm still trying to get used to all this and I completely agree, the Protein restriction should not be in place while learning to adjust to eating again while banded.

I had no post op Protein goal but I did have a calorie goal. I was told to stay at 800. Ticked me off because if I hadn't asked, I could have just kept happily consuming 1000 for the six weeks. LOL. Anyway, I ate Soup, soup and more soup for six weeks. And Protein Shakes. I got bored of yogurt and pudding really quickly.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
