@michellew and @ready28......All there of us have our surgery within a day, our height and starting weights are very close and our goal weights are the same. How's that for coincidence?

I think we'd be great support for each other. Let's buddy up???

I've also ordered some shakes and chewable Vitamins and such. I'm on day 2 of my 2 week pre-op diet. I'm supposed to have at least 60 gms. of Protein each day and one small Fiber rich meal (veggies, fruits) and another Protein (fish ,chicken) No more than 800 - 1000 calories a day. Also a minimum of 60 oz. of liquids. I've spend most of the day peeing. I hope I make it for 2 weeks.

michellew1 - I am having the same surgery one day before you, Does that count? :-) I have the same goal weight too, so I'd love to follow your journey and compare notes as we go along. My surgeon doesn't require the 2 week liquid diet, just the day before surgery. I go next week for my pre-op appt and hope he doesn't change that!

I've been making my to-do list of things I need to buy. I already have my Protein drinks and Vitamins but will need to get popsicles, cottage cheese, milk, etc. I am getting nervous but also excited that after this long wait it is almost here. Sometimes I wonder if the whole ordeal with getting approved is just to build up that excitement so we don't think too much about how our insides are going to get all rearranged.

Lucky, lucky you that you don't have to go on the two week liquid diet. I am on day 3 and I want a piece of chicken or something. The shakes are hard to get down. I am hanging in there though. I just made some sugar free Jello, maybe that will help me with having something else. I have already started my Vitamins and they are really good. They are like my little treats throughout the day. I am going to try the chicken broth tonight for dinner. I just got back from the grocery store for my family and it was kinda hard just buying for the three of them. But I will get the hang of it.

Good luck and keep me up to date on everything your way. :)

Hello Dabliss111114. Yes lets Buddy up! I love it! How weird is it that we are about the same height and weight and we have close surgery days. We were just destined to be surgery friends.

I am on day 3 of my FULL liquid diet. You are so lucky, I want a piece of chicken so bad right now. It is weird because I still have ice cream and by birthday cake still in the fridge. I don't want any of that, all I want right now is just a tiny bite of chicken, just a small piece. LOL. But I will get through this. I made some Jello earlier, hopefully that will give me some other flavor in my mouth. I have to aim for at least 1000 calories a day and 70 grams of protein a day and drink 64 oz o Water a day. I thought I would be spending my whole day peeing too but I haven't.

We can make it these two weeks. Lets chat anytime

I just try to remember that the ones who have the complications or problems are going to be more vocal than those who don't because they want and absolutely need more support and advice. It has helped me to get through some of that. Also, out of those who have had complications, many of them do not regret their choice and say they would do it again which says a lot! ???? Good luck and hope this helps!

Best wishes to you too. :) I am pretty scared too. But mostly excited. Excited to finally be healthy. I try to stay away from all the negative feedback on here. It will just get you down. And I like to stay positive. :)

Thank you both! I too am so ready to be healthy and most of all to be free of the weight. I have no idea what it's like to be a "normal" weight in my 45 years of life. This is going to be like a whole new life for me :)

My date is Nov. 10th, just started the liquid diet on Monday, The food wouldn't be to bad, it's just the blender makes everything look so un-appetizing. it's going to be long two weeks.

@@Dabliss111114 - sorry to hear how brutal your doctor was! I would have been in tears! I imagine you will lose those 8 lbs easily on the liquid pre-op diet though. Do you have to go back to weigh in before surgery? If not, I doubt he'd cancel if your already at the hospital!

Congratulations on quitting smoking and caffeine! Those are huge. Kudos to you. I still need to wean off caffeine and soda. Ugh.

I'm November 5 and have no clue how to manoeuvre this site? How do I become part of a group or follow someone? Message them? How do I know who's messaging me back? Huh?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
