@ -- oh my word, I'll bet you're exhausted! I heard that at weeks 3-5 your body actually kinds tries to hibernate, but that it gets much, much better after that. I love that you aren't weighing in this month. Maybe I won't either. ;)

I definitely feel a hibernation coming on! I saw SO many posts about people freaking out about the "dreaded 3 week stall" so I figured I would save myself the insanity and just skip it all together. I'm guaranteed a loss Dec 1 and I won't know how long my stall has been. :-) I'm trying not to be a slave to the scale, @@Becca R.

Revgirl checking in! Didn't mean to worry anyone. Just concentrating on laying low! One week and 3 days after surgery with Garcia at florence. The best surgery experience I've ever had. Professional, efficient, caring staff and very organized. Things that I found very valuable was bring my own fan, gas x, spray bottle and wash clothes. Have to tell the funny story of how I made my husband order certain foods to eat so I could smell it! Yes, smell it before he could eat it! Aroma therapy was my saving grace! Week two into the diet, I find myself always eating or drinking so I'm very rarely hungry. I feel best on days I walk. Soon I'll post some fantastic sites, products and recipes I've found on line. Glad to hear everyone's experiences and for anyone anticipating, peace in the thought that their are alot of great people there to go through the process with you!

Wanted to share one strange but good effect from the surgery. Before surgery I was a hot natured person. Since surgery I've been cold natured. I researched and found out this can be an effect of the surgery. I actually like it!

@@wantingabetterlife - you made me feel so much better! I think it is just those last week jitters. I am excited about this new chance but those little doubts manage to creep their way in somehow. So so glad to hear you are doing so good!

Hello everyone...well we are leaving for Tijuana on Friday and we have some questions:

Should we take cash or can we use credit cards or travelers checks?

Should I bring some powdered drinks or broth for the way home?

Is it safe to venture out? oh and do they have American tv stations....my fiancé needs to watch the Cowboys on Sunday :)

Thanks!

@@Tootie Smiles -- if you want to use credit cards, just make sure you let the companies know you will be in Mexico or they'll block them.

I brought Propel packets, but my doctor prefers Vitamin Water "Restore". I got it here at a convenience store.

Our TV at the hotel has ESPN in Spanish. :)

Susie MN, going into this I knew how hot natured I was and that Mexico would be warmer. The spray bottle was for my husband to spray my face nd arms when I got to hot and then with the fan in me would have a nice cooling effect. After surgery though I'm now cold natured and find myself bundled up these days. Curious how everyone is doing with their weight loss. Do you include the weight you lost before surgery? I do. So far 24 pounds total, 18 pds. before surgery and 6 pds. since surgery. I plan to weigh at the end of each week.

This is me exactly. I've been absolutely freezing at times since surgery and it's not even really cold outside - in the 70s - I'm kinda glad because being hot all the time was a pain, but yowza! I slept in flannels and socks last night for the first time in years. ????

Also, my husband was able to watch American football in our room and on the big screens in the lobby lounge area.

@@MS Bling It is going to depend on your individual doctor. Several of us were kind of congested just from the flight. It wasn't a problem. I would think as long as you aren't "sick" (running a fever and severely congested) they will go ahead with surgery.

@@MS Bling -- I went with a bit of a sore throat. It really wasn't a thing. I think the only "cold symptom" contraindication that would stop you from having surgery is a fever over 101 degrees. I ended up having a U.T.I. (had no idea) and they just gave me antibiotics. Did your doctor call you back yet?

@@wantingabetterlife How are you feeling today??

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
