Hi there, not sure if you are on a particular protocol -- does Dr. Simpson have his patients follow a post-op diet? Regarding bread, I don't eat it because it is carbohydrate and I'm looking for Protein -- and also because bread can get Gummy there is more potential for it to get stuck. I also don't eat rice or Pasta. Very occasionally I have a tiny bit of gluten-free Pasta but that is rare and I am very careful. These are things I would have thought I'd miss but actually I don't miss them at all. After getting banded, tastes often change. Best wishes to you!

I've found that breads in general get stuck. It's *not* a happy feeling. Since I want to avoid that, I've stopped eating bread. I do, however, add ground flax and chia seeds to my Breakfast Protein Shakes so that I can still get my Fiber in. :D

I believe most doctors prefer we not consume processed flours as a daily routine but most should be OK with an occasional sandwich or piece of toast? My nut advised having half a bagel with some cream cheese on it.

The band life shouldn't mean we can't eat certain foods, it just means we should make better decisions. I can eat anything but I choose to eat breads maybe 1-2 times a week and I limit this to Oroweat flatbreads for the most part. Occasionally I'll have a tortilla but again, not every day.

The idea is to eat less food and eat healthier food than we did before. You'll lose slower this way but for many of us it's a compromise I have to make to avoid binging on other less healthy foods.

So, in my opinion, there are not banned foods, not even white bread or flour tortillas. Your doctor may have different ideas on this but as long as you lose weight, no one will care.imo

I've been eating Progresso Beef Barley soup for over 2 years and it's never caused a stuck episode. In fact, most all foods that are surrounded by some kind of sauce, gravy or salsa rarely ever causes a problem.

Thanks for replying! I had some Soup for lunch today but ate the barley sparingly to be safe and so far so good.

I'm sure some people don't care for the texture of barley, but I love it's chewy goodness.

My band does not lie rods I try every once in a while I will take a tiny bite of some kind of starchy food but if it feels like it doesn't want to stay down so I don't eat any more and wheat bread has to be real toasted for me to even try, so I usually don't eat it, don't get e wrong I miss my sandwiches, tortillas , since I was a meat and potato's girl but since being banded there are jut some foods that my band says no way.

I don't eat bread. I don't even know if I could. But I know that if I figured out I could eat bread, I'd eat it, so I don't eat bread, and tell myself (and anyone who asks why I don't eat a sandwich, pizza, toast, Pasta dish, rice on the side, etc.) that with my band, I can't eat it. Which, while physically is perhaps untrue, mentally it is true.

Better never to start then to have wean myself off again.

There is no rule that says you can or cannot eat certain things like breads.....it is between you and your band.

You have to learn to listen to your band. (actually Dr.;s do have rules, but that's another story you'll learn with experience)

I cannot eat breads...not because I was told not to, but because it is too risky to do so. In the bread/flour family you can add pizza, donuts, cakes/cookies....not to mention rice...

Other people with the band can eat these items everyday with no problems

Some people need to crush their meds/pills..I do not.

Some people cannot drink carbonated beverages...I can

Some people have no problems with red meats...I gave it up over 3 years ago.

Some people can drink Water with meals...I cannot, (and better not) sometimes up to 1/2 hr afterwards.

The differences between what people can and cannot do is vast...bottom line...are you happy and successful with your weight loss? That's all that matters.....

I don't eat bread anymore and I really don't miss it. Pasta and rice too. I can get them down, but I'd prefer not to get stuck, and that healthy fear keeps me away from them.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
