Pre-op Diet Troubles

Recommended Posts

So, I started my pre-op diet 5 days ago. It is the opti fast diet, consisting of 4 shakes and one Protein Soup for the day, plus any sugarless drinks and fat free broth I would like. However, the last two days I have done nothing but throw up everything I consume. I feel miserable. I called my nutritionist and she says she hasn't heard of anyone having problems, but I'm wondering if this is true. Have any of you had this same issue? What did you do? I honestly don't know how I will make it through two weeks of this.

The only thing I can think of is, does the Protein powder container/package have an expiration date?

Do the shakes taste good to you? I use powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and found them to be very palatable.

Tis the season for all sorts of viruses floating about. Maybe you picked up a stomach bug?

I didn't pick up a stomach bug. Unfortunately, for the entire two weeks, I was sick. I threw up pretty much everything I drank. My body wouldn't tolerate the drastic change. It was horrible. I stuck through it though, and my surgery was on the 21st. I am home now, on the full liquid diet, but with less restrictions... And I don't have to have everything sugar free as long as I Water down my juices and such. I feel much better physically, but I am counting down the days until I can actually eat again.

Good job on sticking through it!!!! My surgery is 11/26 and I have started the liquid diet today per my nutritionist. The Protein Shakes they have me drink are Premium and u get them at costco or Sam's club (the cheapest). They are very tasty!

I would love to hear updates on your journey! I'm really nervous about mine. The biggest obstacle I see is preparing separate from my family.

Are the Premier Protein shakes ones that are already mixed and not in powder form? The "New Direction" product I have is powder that I mix. I feel like something already mixed would taste better.

Yes they are already mixed! They taste like a shake and the best that I have found so far! They come in cases of 12 at costco or Sam's club but Sam's price come out to about $1.39 each which is the cheapest I have found.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
