I started taking Biotin immediately after surgery. I'm past 3 months now and it doesn't seem to have done anything for my hair. But my nails are fantastic. Better than they've ever been in my life.

Just saying.

As I understand it Biotin is just going to make your hair grow faster not necessarily make it stronger, With that being said I've been taking 20,000Mg of it a day for about 2 months now and have noticed my nails and hair are growing quicker. I've heard that sometimes the higher amount of Biotin can mess with your skin and cause acne if you don't drink enough Water with it, But that shouldn't be an issue for any of us and it hasn't been for me :)

I am nine months out and have been taking 20,000 mg Biotin since monthe two. I am one of the fortunate few who did not suffer from noticeable hair loss, but I did have horrible issues with my nails immediately after surgery and up until I started the Biotin.< /p>

It took my nails a couple of months to repair, but I also have been on 80 grams of Protein since the second month. No skin problems, but every other time I shower, I exfoliate and rub my skin with either a moisturizing lotion or come sweet almond oil that I have. That's just to keep skin cells regenerating in hopes of minimizing lose belly flop skin.

Don't know if that will work, but I have to keep hope alive!I also use both bone for Soups, and eat sugar free Jello every day for the Gelatin content.

According to my doctor, there isn't anything that's going to stop the hairloss. She told me it's OK to take Biotin and Folic Acid for the regrowth. Here's what she says: "According to your body, hair is optional. If it thinks that you need help in other ways, it won't take care of your hair." I lost a lot of hair - when I say a lot of hair, I mean it. It became thin and dry. I started losing at month 2, got really bad in months 3 and 4 and finally stopped at 6 months. Some days in the shower I would cry because I was holding a fistful of hair.

I took my supplements religiously. I used Nioxin Shampoo. I used Toppik to cover up the really thin spots.

I am 10 months post-op now - I just got my haircut and my stylist said, "I don't know how it's possible, but it looks like it's growing back thicker!" I can feel it and I can see it - it's coming back.

I wonder, has anyone thought of a wig. They have the most beautiful wigs (not sure how to get one though) these days. I have to go to a wedding 9 months after Bypass. I HAVE to look amazing, no ifs or buts.

Look online for wig stores near you. Just remember that wigs, like anything else, come in varying degrees of quality and the better ones are considerably more expensive. (Had a friend who lost her hair from chemo and went wig shopping with her)

my doctor said that the change in diet promotes Hair loss but so does stress. I have had 4 surgeries in a year. my mom passed away. and my husband was found 100% disabled and is home all the time. I think this is the biggest stressor. my hair loss was and still is horrible. so I finally cut it short. long on top but short around the ears and back of neck. I love it. no more long hair everywhere. I also used suave morracan for shiny hair. so at least my hair looks healthy and shiny as it falls out. my stylists said I have enough hair that I shouldn't worry about it but I do.

I am losing a lot of hair right now. My hair used to be very very thick and I had to start taking a chemo drug for my RA so to me, it is pretty thin.

Now with the trauma of surgery, I feel like handfuls are coming out in the shower at night. Of course all during the day as well.

I wonder if one day I am going to wake up to nothing!

I'm 18 months post RNY and while I'm not losing much hair anymore I am thrilled with L'Oreal's Volume Filler line of hair shampoo/conditioner/gel and most of all the ampules of "fiber amplifying concentrate". It is fantastic! It makes my hair look thicker than ever.

I started losing hair last month (second month post-op) and this month is disaster!!!

My hair was thin before and now I'm almost bald! You can see it more obvious when I go to the gym and my head got very sweaty OMG never been this bald in my life!!

I saw there're a lot of brands of Biotin, could anyone recommend a good one for me please??

Thank you.

I haven't had much Hair loss but I was taking Biotin for a while. Then I read that it increases Hair growth everywhere and I don't need any more help with facial hair! ???? Has anyone else heard of this?

I know, perhaps Hair loss is unavoidable but guess who went to buy some Biotin today. I purchased the highest dose available which is a tiny pill. 23 days until surgery, I'm getting a head start on my hair, lol. My skin and nails probably need all the help they can get as well. Wish me luck!

Read your facial hair comment regarding Biotin. Great I'll have a full head of hair and a full beard by surgery date. Since I have not told anyone about my surgery this will be my new look. Lol

I think a head start before surgery is a great idea. I am going to buy some today. Also, not sure but I heard B12 Vitamin works well with biotin... Any chemist out there?

I have been wearing wigs for the past two and a half years. I had lost hair due to thyroid problems and alopecia and then chemo treatment finished it off. It has grown back, except in the alopecia areas, but it is very fine and frizzy - nothing like it was before. As someone else commented, with wigs you get what you pay for. I wear ones from the Raquel Welch range and have found them very good - get the right one and they look natural. I am often asked for the name of my hairdresser because people think it's my own hair (apart from close friends who know it's not). In fact I do get a hairdresser to trim them a bit to suit my face and I'm very pleased with them. The only drawback is that they are hot to wear in summer.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
