Banded TODAY, May 8 2007

Recommended Posts

Hi All: Been laying low over the last 4 months reading all your helpful advice. Well today all your help paid off. I was banded at Abington Hospital in Pennsylvania. Due to ALL of you collective advice I was able to walk into that hospital today confident that it was the right decision.

My insurance company said no go as it is excluded from my policy by my employer. (Aetna) For the price of a decent used car I have been able to start on down the road of a much higher quality of life.

Six hours into it and feeling pretty good. I hope I can continue on your support and will be sure to respond to those who I can help. Not sure how to add in all those fancy statistics but I am a 50 year old man weighing in at 325. 42 BMI. Lost 60 on WW about 3 years ago but gained most (but not all) of it back. I have been battling this problem gor 40 years and am very confident that this tool will be the extra assistance I need to get the job done.

Wish me luck and thanks for all your support.

Congrats on making the decision and following through with it. Actually, you have more self control that I - there's no way I could lurk for 4 months and not open my mouth to add my 2 cents worth!

Good luck!

Ha-Ha. If I had more self control I would not have let myself get to this stage. I am the typical guy though. Not always a lot to say buy gears normally keep turning.

I guess my next stop will be ticker factory once I have something to report.

Speaking of Ha-Ha's I have a very accurate digital scale. I weighed myself this AM before I left and again after I came home, (JUST HAD TO PEEK) I GAINED 4 POUNDS!!! That band must be made out of lead

Hi I just registered on the site. I have a friend at my church that has just recently had this done. So far she is ok, but still having some pain. It's been about 6 weeks for her. Her weight loss is slow, but she's very confident about the surgery. I, as you, have been batteling this weight problem for almost 20 years. I am diabetic type II have high BP and high cholesterol. My husbands insurance I was told would pay if you qualify. I am praying that I do, because unless I loose this weight my health will continue to get worse.

I'm kinda scared. I need lots of people to tell me it's no big deal. Does it hurt? How long does it take? Can you eat anything just not as much? I don't know anything at this point.

Hi All. Day 3 and going well. Hurting a little but nothing Tylenol cant handle. Saving Vicadon for bedtime. I would say my biggest complaint is I feel very bloated but not gassy. (Wish I was) Been able to get in 30 minute walks on both day 2 and 3. Went back to work today but probably should have stayed at home. May take off tomorrow and start a long weekend.

NicksWife22, Abington is just outside of Philadelphia. Do a mapquest on zip code 19001. You may want to rethink Mexico. I was self pay and my cost was around $11,800. (It was $9800 for hospital and surgeon. Waiting for anastigiologist bill). Although I feel OK now I was very uncomfortable on the day of Surgery and the next day. I mentioned to my wife as she drove me home that I could not imagine having to travel to get this done. How much does Mexico cost by the time you add in travel costs? PLus do you have to take someone with you to care for you and help you tracel home?

You need to go online and read a lot to find out all there is to know about the lap band system. Also, go to any informational seminars in your area. I was banded on Monday May 7 and had all my questions answered and made sure it was what I wanted before I went. No surprises! After you know the bottom line, the other banders are great for personal experiences and problems because what didn't happen to one would have happened to another and you hear it first hand. Good Luck!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
