Recommended Posts

I'm Excited. Nervous. Hesitant. Determined. Weak. Strong. Always blessed.

Thank you Lord for saving my life.

3 Days to go.

Yeah you basically narrowed down my feelings and emotions too. Amen!

Hey Everyone,

I believe this is my first post on BP! I'm getting really excited, after 14 long months, a suuuuper sketchy insurance battle, and losing 35lbs pre-op I have a surgery date, October 24! ... Well it was October 24, but now I found out today it has been pushed back to the 27. In a lot of ways I am kinda happy about this because it means my surgery will be on a Monday instead of a Friday, a day my surgeon normally doesn't even do surgeries on. And being in the medical field, I know that a Monday morning surgeon = a refreshed surgeon. BUT, I can't help but feel like this thing is never going to happen and everything that could go wrong is going to and my surgery will be even more delayed. I'm trying to stay positive and I wouldn't say I'm anxious at this point (although I know it is coming), I'm just to the point where I'll believe it is going to actually happen when I've woken up from anesthesia in Recovery, haha. Glad I can vent this here, I have a parent that has the same stage 4 brain cancer that that girl that's been in the media this week has (the one claiming she's going to end her life on Nov 1st to prevent her suffering). So, there really isn't any room for complaining or even feeling frustrated in my home environment right now.

Thanks for reading!

I've been getting in anywhere from 70-110g of Protein. Yesterday was 69, and only 841 calories. I just wasn't hungry. So maybe I just didn't have enough Protein for the day. I'll up it today a bit and see if that helps.

According to my Dr.'s nutrition handouts, I only have to get in 40g of protein a day right now, but I believe that's a minimum. It's ok if I go over.

I'm losing weight, so it must be ok! :P

@amylynns. Maybe an extra protein will make all the difference good luck!

I know I get in about 125 grams of Protein in each day way more than the minimum but still under the 1,000 calories I don't want to go over. I tried to ditch the straw the last few days & drink from a cup but my Water intake went way down Worried about PostOp H2o intake.........

I'm doing better today than previous days. A lot less nausea, but I can't choke down my Protein shakes. I used to be able to tolerate them before hand. I just purchased gene pro with rush shipping (next day) because I get extreme nausea with the Protein drinks and I can't not take them.

One note to go buy, practice how you're going to pick things up off the floor, while I'm having a lot less pain (no pain meds at all today) it still smarts to bend over. My suggestion, learn how to get up and down knees or buy a helping device to help pick up things.

I'm getting in at least 4 oz of Water but I really need to get my 64oz in. I think I will make it today. Days 9 post o0. I weighed yesterday and from that weight I'm down 6 pounds at least(I haven't weighed today.)

I'm sorry to hear about you parent Bariactricman.

@@AuriP what brand Protein were you drinking during PreOp? I've enjoyed GNC Lean Protein Shakes & still have a couples cases for PostOp would hate to find out I can't get them down in PostOp

I used 3 different ones. Still the same. The taste is off for me. I used lean 25 from GNC, nectar, and a special K one. They leave me bloated, extremely nauseated, and in pain. I'm going to try this GENEPRO I read in here and see if that helps. It's supposed to be 30g Protein in 15g serving and can be dissolved in cold and hot foods, liquids, is unflavored. I'm really hoping it works out for me.

Beni, I survived a meal out with my family!!! They ate DQ, I was sitting right next to chicken strips (my favorite from there), burgers and fries. I did leave the house knowing we were going to fast food and I had some Soup beforehand and sipped my flavored water while there.

@@Jyoyonomore, have u tried a cup with a sipper top, or water bottle, I do much better with those than a plain wide mouth drinking cup.

Is anyone else doing a sort of food 'funeral'? I feel like since I am starting my pre-op diet on Monday, I am eating things this week that I will either never eat again or won't be able to eat in a long time. Strange...

I did that last week. And prob gained 5 pounds. :(

UGH, getting a headache again tonight.

Went out walking with the kids and dogs. Thought the fresh air would help. Not so much. I wonder if I have any Tylenol here. I think I'm gonna go check and head to bed early.

Night friends...

I'm having them too amylynns. A terrible one last night. I took a sleeping pill and went to bed too. It was trying to take hold this morning, but finally got me around 4pm.

Feeling really overwhelmed and emotional tonight. Last weekend before pre-op diet starts and I think the reality of it all is hitting me hard. Still looking forward to my new healthy life and I know this is what I need to do, but for some reason I'm a mess tonight. :(

gosh I know what you mean. I've been obsessing like crazy over the good(weightloss) the bad(complications) and the uglies(scars).

Wow- see, it IS like being pregnant- uncomfortable, gassy, nauseas, emotional, nesting, can't bend to the floor, and some of us had to wait 9 months to get here!!

But then, the rewards; losing the double chin and the belly afterwards and being so much more energetic. Instead of gaining a baby tho, you're losing one that weighs 100lbs or more!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
