Foods you detested then liked after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I absolutely hate raw tomatoes. I detest them. I'm wondering if someone has detested a food before surgery and really fell in love with it afterwards?

Thanks !

I love to try new food. I'm more adventurous these days. Many things that would turn me away in the past I now love.

Eggplant Parmesan

Portobello Mushroom pizzza

Slice of pare, blue cheese topped with a caramelized pecan

Crisp Prosciutto wrapped around asparagus

egg whites, spinach with cherry tomatoes

Guess I never tried to find out. Like Jen, I've tried (and liked) a lot of new foods, but never tried the stuff I know I don't like. I still like the things I always did, so I assume I'll still dislike the other stuff.

Buffle ! That's so funny and cool :) Even though I hate raw tomatoes I still try them periodically. I'm hoping my taste buds likes them afterwards. It would make me laugh. My husband periodically will chase me around the house with a raw Tomato lol ;)

Thanks everyone for answering this !

@jenn1 Those sounds great ! it's so exciting to see what you're going to like and not like and what new foods you might be able to incorporate. On the flip side it's a tad scary to lose some of your favorites too. What a whole new world !

Thanks !!

Greek yogurt. It was awful pre-surgery. Even the fruity ones. Now, I like it and don't like regular yogurt as much.

I asked this same question before my surgery. As a really picky eater, it would make my life so much easier if I could like more foods...including tomatoes! Oh my gosh, the world is not made for Tomato haters. And I'm really not a vegetable fan. I'm just getting to the real foods phase so I haven't tried all those but I don't have a whole lot of hope. Although, like Forsythia, I can now tolerate Greek yogurt whereas before, I couldn't so maybe it will get better.

Roasted vegetables, beets, Peanut Butter, ham, shrimp...didn't detest them before but wouldn't seek them out.

Wow !!! So interesting. Are you enjoying finding out what foods you like and what you don't? Being pre op I'm kind of excited about that. !

I didn't like salads before, but now I have at least 3 a week. They taste fantastic with a little ranch dressing. Of course, I put in a few bacon bits, hard boiled egg and cheese to give them a bit more Protein, and use raw spinach instead of lettuce.

I don't care much for breads anymore, and before surgery, I would have bread almost 3 times a day. I've also for the most part given up anything fried.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
