Anyone get acid indigestion AFTER the sleeve?

Recommended Posts

Please Google how your body becomes dependant on acid blockers. The more you take them the more you need them. I understand that some people must take them because the reflux is so bad and can cause damage to the esophagus. If the reflux is mild, try weaning off the acid blockers. It takes a little time and can be difficult.

I successfully weaned myself off of Prilosec using Zantac and DGL Licorice. Many times I just wanted to pop a Prilosec but I used Tums to help. I still take Zantac but no longer need Prilosec.

Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Thanks for the input.

I take 1 Prilosec in pm for 2 wks then go off them for as long as I can then I use Zantac and a acid/gas chewable as needed. I find I don't need the Prilosec as much or often as I did.

I was told Prilosec causes stomach polyps. Anyone know if this is true?

I'm still holding at 30 lbs. I haven't tried to loose weight but am trying to be more active. But even the 30 lbs has made a big difference, my BP is normal, my arthritis doesn't hurt near as much and I don't feel "fat".

I just had upper zgI and the doc found stomach polyp. I have been on Prilosec for many years. So that may be the cause.

What do they do for a stomach polyp? Does it cause pain or problems? I know nothing about them.

No pain before or after. He removed it and sent to lab. No further treatment. I had heard of colon polyps but not stomach ones. Hope I will be able to get off them after surgery.

I never had acid problems prior to surgery. It is a side effect of the sleeve.

I had a colon polyp taken out 10 yrs ago. I am going to try to stay off Prilosec as much as possible due to the polyps. I've heard the gastric bypass can cure acid problems but I did not have any problems prior to the sleeve and its not that bad now just annoying at times.

I also noticed I have to sit up straight when I eat and a little while afterward. If I sit any other way it bothers me.

Good luck with your surgery all will be fine. Just follow the program, do what the DR says and take one day at a time. The weight won't fly off but that is good. Slow is the way to go if possible.

Happy New Year to you and all the great people in this group.

Thanks. Disappointing about the acid reflux. But it can't be as bad afterward since the diet will be much improved. One week from tomorrow. It's the final week countdown.

Happy New Year to all. It is going to be a great year!

I never had acid reflux before my lapband but I had it afterward. Now after the sleeve it was pretty bad. I am 10 days out and am taking 40 ml of omeprazol once a day. I have to take it later in the evening and it does the trick as long as I don't eat really late. I hate acid reflux more than I like food so it's a no brainer.

With reflux, there will never be a bedtime snack or late dinner. The gastroenterologist increased my dose to 40 mg in July and that has made a tremendous difference. I am still hoping for a miracle and no more acid reflux after the sleeve.

Ugh!! Never had any acid reflux prior to being sleeved but boy oh boy do I have it now! No matter what I eat, how I sit, how slow I eat or how good I chew I get it. If I eat then take a nap I wake up with a throat full. Dr says its from the hernia repair he did but I didn't have any symptoms of a hernia prior to my sleeve surgery. Its been almost a month since I was sleeved. I'm popping Pepcid like candy but it gives me little relief. I wish it would go away!!

ok so today I am 21 days out. I had horrifying acid reflux until 3 days ago. I wound up eating earlier those 3 days and then took my omeprazole later in the evening and I didn't get it. But last night I left my omeprazole in my car by mistake and since I didn't feel like changing back into my clothes I took a chance and didn't take it. I had no acid reflux. I'm thinking that since I am probably less swollen inside now perhaps I'm not going to have this problem. I sure hope so cause it is so very annoying and painful too.

My Dr had me take an RX Protonix I think it was for 3 mo's then said if I had any acid to take Prilosec which I have for 7 mo's but not constantly. I'm grateful I don't have the GERD.

I don't know if the acid indigestion goes away with time. I hope for all of us it does.

Wishing everyone A Very Happy New Year

I was going to start a thread but seen this!

I hope you guys can help. I'm 4 weeks and 4 days out from Sleeve surgery and the last 5 days I've been having a burn type feeling in my stomach. I wouldn't say it's the typical heart burn or acid reflux as its just in my stomach. It's like a cross between the feeling of a very empty stomach where you are super hungry and burning. If I eat I'm fine it's the in between meals where it's bothersome. I hope you can get an idea with my description hahaha

I am going to call my surgeon in the morning, but was wondering if you think it's a type of heartburn or something more serious?

I'm following all the rules prescribed by my doctor... I may not get in ALL the Vitamins every day but other than that it's all going well!

So any help would be awesome! Thanks

Sheena :-)

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
