Drinking Alcohol... It's not worth it!

Recommended Posts

Have had great success with my weight loss and hit my 6mo mark at 112lbs lost.. Then I decided I would try drinking alcohol again. I tried to make "good" choices on Labor Day weekend and got drinks without a lot of sugar and so called skinny drinks.. I was able to drink more then I thought I would.. Had a great time, only to see a 5lb gain in the scale today. I wanted to cry. That fun weekend was not worth it!!!! I barely ate all week trying to make up for drinking and that clearly don't work . I still feel bloated and am really disappointed in my actions. I really wish I hadn't done it and I need to learn from this and stop acting like I'm 21 !!!

I am so glad you posted this! I am headed out tomorrow to go to my niece's wedding shower several states away. My sister has planned a weekend of wildness and drinking. But I am 3 months out and totally focused on my diet and feeling like a well oiled machine right now. Your post just confirms it's not worth it! Thanks for sharing!

Don't beat yourself up. I drank a couple weekends ago and I went back and logged everything I ate and drank. That half a vodka cost me 2 pounds. But the fact I only drank 20 ounces of Water that same day I think was much worse. I stuck to Protein and all the other rules but a vodka cranberry of which I drank half of in 3 hours was no bueno

I upped the Water and excercise and 4 days!!!! Later I was back where I started.

Just to keep it in perspective, alcohol dehydrates you. After drinking your body retains Water. There is no way you drank 17,500 calories to gain 5 pounds in one or two days. The change on the scale is very temporary as long as you eat on plan and drink your Water.< /p>

I have been told by my Doc that one drink stalls weight loss for 3 days. Myself like others in the thread broke my own rules and drank more than I needed scotch on the rocks over the holiday weekend. It made me feel like crap the next few days. Now I am stalling with even a slight weight gain. I will not do that again. Not another drink until I reach my goal.

Stalls? Massive weight gain? Huh. Glad my doctor didn't install those extra features into my sleeve. The couple of times I've imbibed heavily, I've "gained" 3-4 pounds over a weekend only to lose them by Tuesday. Just go back to plan and drink Water. I don't recommend heavy drinking regularly, but an occasional shindig won't hurt you.

I've had hard liquor and wine a couple times/month since 4 months post op. I have no clue if I gained temporarily when I did because I don't weigh myself that frequently. But since I'm 7 pounds under goal weight at 8 months postop I'm not about to second guess any of my choices.

Just one more reason to throw your scale away....guilt free enjoyment of libations!

Really, honestly, a night of fun is what you probably really needed. I intend to enjoy life, and if I fall off the wagon once in awhile because I've enjoyed a night with friends and let loose after such a strick diet, so be it. It's just as important to live life as it is to loose weight. Let loose and enjoy, just keep in mind where you came from! Don't be so hard on yourself.

I wasn't intoxicated and I resent the implication that if I drink I am drunk.

I enjoyed a drink. Or a glass of wine.

@@Jersrose43 I was responding to par1959 and his opinion of your statement and mine, nowhere did you imply you were intoxicated. Enjoy life and all it has to offer, you can not live life by only thinking how many calories does this have. I will always enjoy wine, cesars, chocolate martini's and many other drinks. If this surgery ment I could never live again, I wouldn't be having it. There are many things in life I can give up, but WINE is not one of them! It might be awhile, but I will enjoy dinner and drinks with friends again, and it will be guilt free!

Interesting how people gain weight when they drink. I have been drinking every weekend for the past 2 months but just on Fridays/Saturdays. I drink white wine or light cran and vodka. I end up losing weight the next day every time I drink. But then again I don't eat a lot of food that day either. But I have to tell you the buzz feels awesome. It does get me in trouble though where I am getting hit on by men all the time lol. I hate to say it but I enjoy drinking and before surgery I would rarely drink. And I am not addicted but like the buzz lol

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
