Pre op weight loss

Recommended Posts

Just finished my second dr appt and I lost 14 lbs on his dr supervised diet. The dr was very excited. Will the insurance deny the surgery if I lose too much weight? I'm still over the 40% bmi mark but what if I lose another 30 lbs? I would still be 80 lbs from my goal weight. I have a proven track record of gaining it back. Just concerned that I am adhering too strictly to his goal of 1200 cals a day.

I am still preop too. I think you need to find out exactly what your insurance requirements are so you don't fall below them. That would really suck if you did all this work and then got denied for losing too much! Congrats on the 14 lbs!

The dr seemed excited about the lose. He did not caution me against losing too much but he was surprised I did lose the 14lbs. Losing 14 lbs is not that hard for me due to my size. It is getting harder to do as I get older though. But that's my cycle of lose 10 lbs. gain 15lbs. I can lose it but it always comes back bringing friends.

I am the same way.... I lose weight very quickly when I am completely focused on losing. If I have one off day I tend to gain a significant amount of weight back over night. It's so frustrating. I decided that I wasn't going to try to lose during my NUT visits.... I just didn't want anything to happen because my BMI is under 40 and I don't want my insurance Co to say I can just continue with the nutritionist since it's working.

My insurance company said once I was pre approved I would not be penalized for losing too much weight during the 6 month doctor supervised weight loss.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
