6 wks post op and something isn't right

Recommended Posts

I usually have a feeling like my stomach is in my throat. It's hard to explain and sometimes I describe the feeling as a lump in my throat. It can be worse after I eat, although there are days when the the feeling is constant...like today. Has anyone else been thru this? My surgeon ordered Zofran every 6 hours and indicated if I didn't get relief, I should get upper GI. I had post op complications due to hernias causing blockages so had 3 surgeries in 2 wks. So ready for normal!

I had the same problem. Had to slow down my eating. When I started waiting a minute between bites the feeling of it being in my throat stopped. My voice would even change. It was strange. Wait longer between bites and see what happens.

I would suggest you get the upper GI. I had ulcers so severe they put 3 units of blood in just while I was in ER I was in ICU for 2 days, and another 3 in regular room.

Now I am waiting to have 2 hernia's taken care of. One in abdomen wall; 2nd is where my stomach has pushed up over the diaphragm. The 1st isa large bump on my stomach area; the 2nd cases extreme tightness in my chest area ... they thought (& so do I) I was having a heart attack. It makes eating uncomfortable.

I hope all goes better for you.

I'm having a similar problem. I know exactly what you mean!! I am 8 weeks post-op and have that feeling often. I was also throwing up frequently. I had an upper GI that showed no blockages, and my surgeon referred me to a gastroenterologist for an endoscopy. Turns out I have a big ulcer. The GI doctor said the ulcer can cause swelling in my pouch which in turn can cause more vomiting. They have doubled my dose of omeprazole to 80mg. per day, but I'm still having trouble eating and keeping food down. It's frustrating.

I finally have a good follow up report. I'm now 7 months out and that terrible feeling in my throat is gone!! My surgeon said I was having esophageal spasms. Thank God I can eat and feel normal again. It took awhile to get here. Just want to give a little hope to those experiencing something similar.

I had the same exact problem after surgery, it was because I was drinking too fast and eating too fast. It eventually went away. I even called the drs over it. Sip Water and eat slowwwww.

A lot of great advice im pre op and so I'm writing all this down in my notebook like there's no tommarrow. When u first read about the non flavored protine powder I thought to myself who does that?! I would want chocolate and vanilla and all that sweet goodness.. it's so hard to wrap my head around how things might be post op. I'm a bit nervous too.

Sunny that sounds frusterating. I hope you find what works for you.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
