I've seen a lot of posts on these forums from people who say they have a hard time drinking Water post-op. Not just the physical restriction, but that it doesn't taste good to them anymore. I'm starting to get really scared that could happen to me. Currently, I LOVE water. It's pretty much all I drink aside from a coffee here and there and my stupid afternoon diet mountain dew (working to kick that habit before my pre-op diet starts). I drink about 14 cups of water a day now. I LOVE refreshing ice water. It is amazing. I've felt very fortunate to love water, because I know a lot of people don't and therefor have trouble staying hydrated or losing weight. It would be pretty tragic if I came out the other side of my VSG surgery hating water. It's like the ONE healthy thing I love right now!

I'm sitting here drinking Water right now, and it tastes just fine. I'ts hard to lose your taste for something that's basically tasteless. I think you'll be okay.

I loved plain Water before surgery - since the day after surgery, I can't drink it. It's like liquid sandpaper. No idea why.

I drink a lot of Propel or Vitamin Water Zero. I can drink some of the Crystal Light drinks, but not very often.

I will say - it's totally worth it, even with all the sacrifices I've had to make.

My very first post to BP was about Water. Now, many months out, I can drink Water nicely, and get 3-4 gooood swallows at a time, wait a few, then more of the same.

The taste of it never changed for me; I just hated that I couldn't guzzle water as before. Still can't guzzle, but it is definitely reasonably good for a water-lover.

Just my opinion but I think many posts of people claiming they dont like the taste of plain Water after surgery are trying to justify not not drinking it in place of the unhealthy choices they would prefer.

I loved plain Water before surgery - drank it all the time. I would have no issues drinking it now if it didn't feel like liquid sandpaper in my mouth. I drink other waters, though - not calorie laden drinks. Propel Zero, Vitamin Water Zero, Splash, etc - all waters and all zero calorie drinks.< /p>

I agree with McButterpants. I drank it all the time before and I just plain like it less now. I can tolerate it, but I drink it best right after a workout. Otherwise it's really helpful to me to have about half a crystal light package in a 28 oz bottle.

For me I am mostly concerned with what will keep me hydrated. Unsweetened iced tea, and Water with some flavoring works best.

Your ability to drink Water improves over time. It is difficult to get volume post surgery but at about 4 months post op it was no longer an issue. I can guzzle water if I choose. I am in the camp of flavored drinks. I can drink some water but prefer to add Vitamin water, propel, crystal light and Dasani flavored drops that I can add to a bottle of water

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
