I need some advice. My doctor doesn't require a pre-op diet, only Clear liquids the day before surgery. I was kinda hoping to jump start my weightloss so I was thinking of starting my own pre-op diet, but I am not sure what to do. I thought about doing just Atkins so I can still actually eat, or just doing Protein Shakes for a week before surgery. Did any of you out there not have a pre-op diet and start your own? What would you do?

Thanks!

The clinic I am with requires a high potein, low fat, low carb diet which is pretty easy to do. The reason is to shrink the liver because it has to be moved during surgery and shrinking it will increase your chances of success.

The diet is 0-1% fat cottage cheese, 0% fat yogurt plain or artifically sweetened, skim milk, sugar free Jello - in whatever quantities you need to satisfy. Also, coffee, tea 1.5 litres of Water per day. The first week I lost 14 lbs, but then the second only 1.2 lbs.

My pre-pre-op plan from the surgeon's office is:

Each Day:

70 g Protein, 30-50 g carb, 15-30 g fat

65 oz of Water

No bread, rice, past, potatoes

Multivitamin 2x/day

replace 1 meal each day w/high Protein, low carb Protein shake

elimiate sodas, juice, carreine, and carbonated beverages

For the 2 Weeks Prior to Surgery:

"Your diet will consist of liquids and 3-4 of your favorite Protein shakes. At the end of the day you need to have 70 g protein, 30 g carb, 15-30 g fat, and 64 oz of Fluid."

Acceptable Fluids = zero calorie drinks, Water, crystal light, Decaf coffee & tea, low sodium broth, sugar-free Jell-o, sugar free popsicles, skim/lactose free/lowcarb millk, Protein Drinks

First fourteen days after LB surgery:

Sip 6 to 8 glasses of 8 oz each day of Fluid.< /p>

Sip Protein Drinks throughout the day until you have taken in 70 g protein.

Sip slowly! If you take too much fluid @ one time, the additional volume can stretch out your pouch.

Hope this helps!

I am on day 7 of my pre op diet which is pretty much like everyone else has described. I find if I dont get enough Protein in I am starving so I bought Isopure and drink one of those and that seems to help. 3 more days....having surgery on Friday the 4th. Good luck to everyone!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
