Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

What are you most proud of since wls? Or what are you striving for? Most memorable moment?

I really can't point out what I'm most proud of. I'll have to reflect on that.

My most memorable moment is also my least memorable. When I first found this site, of course I was looking at success stories and before and afters and imagining how it could be for me too. I remember one girl posting about how she was finally fitting in regular store XL shirts. I cried. I cried happy tears for the prospect of wearing XL.

My perspective has changed so dramatically, and when I got there, it wasn't really moving for me. Certainly a success, but I've switched gears so much to being fitter, healthier, and feeling good and not just smaller/lighter. Hitting gym and endurance goals is way more rewarding now.

I bought my first pair of size 10 pants the other day. They're nearly impossible to sit in for now, but before, the idea of wearing 10s would have blown my freaking mind. Now I'm thinking when I reach my target body fat %, I'll be in 4/6. Before surgery, I thought I'd plateau and stop losing at 14/16.

After WLS I am proud of my stamina and my self control. Also I am proud of myself for changing my mind set about food. I use to love to eat and made eating my hobby. And now, I eat to live and prefer doing others things in life like loving myself, taking control of my body and my life and loving the new me. I never thought I would get this far and I am so proud of myself. My family has been the biggest support and I am grateful for that. Friends are there but they don't understand me fully. I have to actually explain them the anatomy and physiology of what has happened internally. Also I am very proud of getting the RNY and I love to educate people about it. People have misconceptions and they think this is lyposuction. So I actually love to teach people about it and they get it that this is not easy and it's a lifestyle change.

Great thread ! The thing im most proud of ? The fact that I can call myself a runner. Mind. Blowing. I ran in my younger years, loved it, but havent ran in probably 25 years. I still cant run fast, or very far, but I can call myself a runner. Thank you lap band ! I used to look at average size healthy women wearing cute running gear and wish it could be me, and now it is ! I also enjoy cute clothes, nice compliments, my husbands supportive comments, and yes, funny flirting from cute men! ( Im married, not dead !)....... I look forward to horseback riding, getting stronger , yoga, zip lines, , traveling comfortably, and running , even a short ways, in every state I visit in the future !

This is very moving to me. I was a huge runner...back in the day. I would run 13 hill miles before Breakfast. I loved it. Running has always been meditative for me and a way to put myself

back together. I am going to post a big sign in my room that says: I am a runner.

Thanks for sharing your journey and inspiration. You made a difference to me tonight. Rock on! PD

My proudest moment was the first time I ran on treadmill for 20 min straight without stopping. I was actually running for a pretty long period of time after not being able to run ...pretty much ever. I had had a dream weeks before my surgery of me running effortlessly and it really stuck with me. It was awesome to finally get close to that!! PS I love this post idea!! More like this please! It's very motivational! ETA: Some of my goals: 1. to become one of those crazy folks that goes to the gym 3x a week before work (my job starts at 7am, so this would be a biggie!) 2. to run a 5k with no stopping at all (I'm getting closer to this one!). 3. to be a size large and completely ditch the plus sizes forever (I'm stuck in XL 1X land). 4. to get to the green zone (it will happen someday!!)

What's the green zone?

Great post, @@RNBSN786 ... never thought of it like that before (duh).

Eating can't be my hobby either.

This thread is so inspirational! Thanks for thinking of this! I'm emotional just reading all of your success stories and what you're most proud of after your WLS! I haven't had my VSG surgery of choice as of yet, still waiting on insurance approval but I'm optimistic and very excited to say I can't wait to wear the size fit for my 4'11 height and become athletic! I'm extremely proud of everyone in this forum and I can't wait to be able to actually post my own "after" story :)

Great thread!

My most memorable moment was during my one-year surgiversary trip to Hawaii to visit my sleeve sister. I ran the Maui Oceanfront Half Marathon on Sunday and rode a bicycle down Haleakula on Monday and took a scuba diving lesson on Monday afternoon. I was so proud of myself for all I had accomplished during that year and to be able to be that active during a vacation was a dream come true.

I'm enjoying the new confidence in how I look even though I'm only halfway to goal. Just losing 34 pounds has made me feel so much more "normal" and "competitive" with other women my age with regards to dating. At 210 I knew I had a lot to offer in a relationship but felt like my weight got in the way of someone even having the interest to get to know me.

I'm also loving the new energy I feel -- I'm exercising almost daily (6x a week) and some days I even go for a second round because it just feels so good! Doing the Zombies, Run 5K training and signed up for 2 races -- end of September and beginning of November. My goal is to run them (not walk) and I think I can do it! :)

Ginger

I'd been divorced for 3.5 years before I even THOUGHT about putting myself out there. When I finally did, (about 1/4 of the way into my weight lost post-op)... It was much easier than I imagined. The closer I got to goal, the bigger the boost! I probably shouldn't be so shallow, but I feel like I've been able to discover what I REALLY WANT in another person because there are enough of them interested and I'm getting enough volume in dates now that I can actually figure it out! Thoroughly enjoying my newfound social life!

I was proud of being able to walk up and down the many stairs on Dubrovnik, Croatia (built into a cliff) with my grown daughter for a week.

I am proud to do 90 second planks now.

I am proud to be able to get up from sitting on the floor without using my hands.

I am most proud of being an athlete again after 35 years of steady weight gains. I peaked at 324 pounds and am now 176 pounds.

I'm running, lifting weights, playing tennis and golf and running up stairs effortlessly. 8 months ago I was huffing and puffing after a short walk.

Texas and Andrew - both major accomplishments! Love to hear about them! Yes, I felt the same way....to be able to run again, swim (and feel good about myself in a bathing suit - this i will admit is still a struggle), to be able to go out and do the things I just simply watched others do or heard about....nothing short of amazing!

Living life the way I always perceived it to be lived!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
