I'm not, but I grew up in Philly and all my doctors were at Penn and they were all fantastic. That's not to say don't do your research, but you should be able to find an experienced bariatric surgeon there. Good luck!

I am going to Penn. My surgery is May 3rd with Dr. Williams. My cousin also had her surgery there with same doc. Her surgery was in Nov. She has lost 45lbs. so far, feels great and has no regrets.

Only four more days! It's going fast. For the most part I'm ready and really excited but I'm also nervous. When I first found this sight I spent to much time on the complications board and it started to freak me out. I'm staying away from there now and staying positive. Have you had your appt. with the nutritionist yet?

Hi Deb

How did your last appointment before surgery go? I know for me that is when it really sunk in that this was really going to happen. :omg:

I had my post op visit. I lost 12 lbs.:clap2: I'm done with liquids and moving on to pureed.:hungry: I feel pretty good most of the time now, but the port area is still sore.

Have you been to any of the support meetings at Penn?

Thats great! 12 lbs already. How long were you on liquids? Not the full 10 to 14 days? It is starting to become very real now. When were you able to really get back to your life or are you still working on it? Let me know what worked well for the liquids. I need to start getting my supplies ready.:)

I was on liquids for 8 days. They take you off the liquids at your first post op visit. while on liquids I had the same thing everyday just to keep it simple.

breakfast: sugar free carnation instant Breakfast with half a scoop of Protein powder skim milk and ice mixed in the magic bullet (highly recommend the magic bullet)

lunch: vanilla flavored muscle milk (Protein Powder drink, I found it at target) skim milk, ice, and a banana mixed in the magic bullet

dinner: Tomato Soup made with

skim milk and I melted south beach 1% cheese in it.

all day long I sipped Water from a 32oz. cup. (left over from my weight watchers days)

This gave me all the Protein and all the liquid I needed for one day and I was never hungry.

I'm just now starting to get back to normal but everyone is different and I have to say my life is kind of insane lol.

Tomorrow will be my first day home alone without someone here to help me. I have 4 kids the youngest are 2 and 4. I still can't pick them up and that's the hardest part.

I have my surgery on May 24 and my first post op visit is on June 4. He was booked until then. I will have 15 days. I guess if things are going well I can always call the NP and see if I should start mushies. You have younger kids than I. Mine are 11, 14 and almost 17. I am getting everything under control with my work so that I can take my time recovering and not stress about it. I am a real estate agent so luckily I make my own scedule to a certain extent. Its good to hear you did not feel hungry while on the liquids. I hope the same goes for me. Take care and I will keep in touch! 12 days until my big day!:clap2:

Hi! My name is Elizabeth and I am considering surgery with Dr. Williams. I know it has been about a year and a half for you now. I was wondering how it has been going?

They are trying to steer me to the gastric bipass because they say the Lapband is for Volume Eaters and they think that is not me.

I would love to know what kind of eater you were before and how you have been coping with it.

Thank you and look forward to hearing from you:tongue2:

I wrote Chickadee the same letter but I would love to hear from your point as well. I need all the info I can get in order to make the right choice.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
