How long after insurance approval were you scheduled?

Recommended Posts

I am sure this is different for everyone, but am trying to get a general idea here. I will be done with all my requirements by the end of this month. My insurance has always approved things really fast, within a week at the most. So my question is how long did it take after that to have your surgery? Was your surgeon's schedule booked up for a long time or where you able to get a date within a couple of weeks or so? Just curious.

I have a couple of things timewise to work around and getting a general idea of when I might be able to have the surgery would be really helpful.

I was scheduled within hours of having my approval from insurance. Had surgery a couple of weeks later.

Was told my insurance is taking 3-7 days to approve and my surgeon is scheduling 1-2 weeks out.

What a great question! I was wondering that same thing. I have BCBS of North Dakota and they seem to approve things quickly but I had been wondering if it would take longer for something like this or not.

I was approved and given my surgery date at the same time. It was 3 weeks out so that I could go on the liquid diet for two weeks.

Glad I asked! Sounds like things could happen fairly quickly. That's good news but also means I need to really get prepared more!

I think this really depends on the program.

I know with mine, I had to be approved before I could even start the process. When I got going they said it would be 8-10 months before the surgery took place. They changed things around a bit as I was going through the classes though so it really only took about 5 months.

In my program, you don't get to meet the surgeon until you are approved.

I saw my surgeon, went through the three months of meeting with him and all the other docs and then he scheduled my surgery. Then they submitted to insurance for final approval (there had been a pre-approval right after I first met with the surgeon). My final approval didn't come in until Thursday before surgery on Monday.

The entire process for me was 86 days.

Mine got approved on march 21 and I had my surgery march 31. It moved pretty quickly.

I started my process in dec 2013, 4 visits with my surgeon, last visit early march. I had endoscopy done in feb, nutrition and psych clearance in jan and regular doc visit and blood work in feb, last visit at the surgeon in early march, docs submitted and approved march 21 and had surgery the 31. It all depends on your insurance.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
